I've brought in a .shp file from C3D into infraworks as a design road. I would like to convert the design road to a component road however when I do so by selecting the road, right clicking and choosing 'Convert to Component Road', the curves in the design road change to component road segments.
Is there a way to convert the design road to a component road without losing all of the curve information? Or is there a better way to generate a component road from a .shp file?

A better way to preserve the curves and tangents would be to create an alignment in C3D and then import that as a component road. IW doesn’t really support curves in any other form, which is why you get the tessellated curve geometry from the .shp file.

That makes sense for the curves/tangents, will give it a shot. Wouldn't I lose the elevations with an alignment though?

Yes. You would also need to create a profile in C3D, or just edit the profile for the component road within IW itself. If you don't really care so much about the profile and just want it to drape on the ground, you can use "Drape Profile" in the profile view:
This is in IW 2021. I think the command is in a right-click menu for previous versions. Keep in mind that this will try to add vertical curves based on the design speed. If your goal is to have a "tighter" drape, you might have to make the design speed really low so that it adds more PVIs.
