See light brown wall in both screen captures? Behind this is a mile of mesh, when you move towards this Wall the model just gets smaller.  This happen after I had the Mesh in the dwg, then I imported the PT cloud and processed it.

Mesh came from Pix4d and the pt cloud same data but processed in Recap.

I would call US CAD for support put that is pretty much a waste of time!

Today I go back into this model and its toast! Can't see anything! Had to go thru and delete everything but the Mesh. Now I can see that.

Left and saw there was a newer install of Infraworks. Claims it was a week old? What? I know I looked yesterday and there was no listing of any new updates.  So oh well, lets install it.

Now I get an error when I try to open the model telling me I need to install a crap load of Country Kits? Why? I'm in the USA and there is nothing about this model that is Foreign and oh ya I go to to the Autodesk App and there is no listing of any Country Kits to install!!!!   Now pretty much dead in the water. Thinking I may now need to uninstall every thing and re-install.   WTF!

Hello any one there?   Bueller, Beuller?

Bill,

Is your country kit message something like the attached image?

If so, the easiest way is probably to open <modelname>.files/unver/ModelSettings.json and remove the RequiredContentPacks key in there. the reason why you get this is probably that the model was created with a sandbox Infraworks may be, which has these two content packs (on model creation, all available content packs are selected by default), and then the model was opened with a release infraworks, which does not have these content packs

Did what you said to do.   Now can get back in.  But here is something else?

The Mesh gets these weird psychedelic look?  See screen cast.

Now after have imported both the Mesh and PT cloud I used the Point Cloud Terrain command to get the pt cloud converted to a surface.  Below is the screencast of what I now get.    All pretty much useless.

Lots of Fun Autodesk!  Now I have upgraded to the latest Infraworks Version and now to my amazement, can't even load a mesh any more! Yes, system locks up with the whirlpool symbol going around and around.  I can get the file on the Data Sources list, I can go into to configure the file and yes if i go to the 3D view within here I can see the 3D model in 3D.  But when I attempt to close and refresh, it will go thru the motions and look like something is happening, but will get to Whirlpool icon and just sit and spin!

Tried this now on two different computers with two different Mesh files (OBJ files).    One of the files is old and has worked in the past with no problems!

Any ideas? Trying to make money here!   Do we need to go looking for some other solution?

And for the love of God, give us a Zoom to button for any selected object like we have in Civil 3D for everything! How hard can it be? Whirlpool.PNG

Ten mins later I now see this?  What the heck is this? I can orbit it all day long but this is all I see?  A diamond shaped object?

Here is a dropbox link to the OBJ file created in PiX4D.

Its not a Recap file.  Its a OBJ file.    The Recap Photo results look like crap had to run this project in Pix4D ti get something usable.  Wanting a 3D mesh not a colorized PT Cloud.

Below is a link to my dropbox with the coresponding files.

I was asking for point cloud to get geolocation information. Irrespective of how your processed, if you can upload las or RCS, I can check it out.

Since OBJ doesn't seem to have Geo Location information, I can use some location details to place it.

Check the above dropbox link.  I added all the Recap photo files created.  This was a simple site flown with a Phantom 4 and with no ground control. (not needed, so LL84)

got the point cloud, ran terrain generation, got the terrain to drop FBX, imported FBX, used interactive placing and can see the mesh as shown here. Is this what you are trying to achieve?

This is what I get.  Elevation is way off and can't seem to get the mesh to raise up to meet the Terrain.

and only after I played with the slider bars for the Visualization.

If you click the mesh, the edit handles (usually appear in the corner of the object) should let you raise or lower (using Z axis). Thats what I used to position in this case. Since the fbx doesn't carry geo location information, the Z is off and this step is needed.

Attached is the quick fly through video I created for this data. I kept the mesh slightly above the terrain to give importance to mesh for visualization purposes.

Hi @civilguy08 ,

all symptoms you are experiencing when importing the OBJ file - long waiting time, preview in data source configuration looks fine, object is far away from earth and almost in space, diamond shaped thing - points to an issue with coordinates or units.

InfraWorks is not able to position and scale the OBJ correctly to the correct location and size. It results in extra large coordinates and places the model way off.

It could be a units issue, for example millimeter versus meter.

I have taken a look at your data on DropBox and found the following:

  • The Recap Point Cloud uses a WGS84-15N metric system.
  • Orthoimage and DEM is in WGS84 Lat/Long, which results in extremly small coordinates for each pixel - many decimals. I used RasterDesign and Civil 3D to load and convert it into UTM84-15N.
  • Recap Photo Ortho Elevation is not ideal to use in InfraWorks after re-projections as there are 0-data values in surroundng the elevation data, resulting in a terrain that goes down to 0.0 meter at the borders. Therefore, I processed a point cloud terrain in InfraWorks.
  • OBJ and FBX are in FT units - use YX-FT to import it to InfraWorks.

This is what I get after loading all data sources into InfraWorks.
Placement of the OBJ will be challenging as it's not georeferenced. and needs to be placed interactively.

Could you tell me what view settings you have set to see the ptcloud and mesh so nice in your screen capture?

While I'm in Recap and assembling the PT Cloud from the LAS files everything looks good.  But when I import the RCP file into Infraworks this is what I see.  I have gone out and updated my graphic driver  GTX 1080 ti to the lastest version and still get this.   Also if I try to orbit around the model will start to disappear and re-appear at will.

Thanks for both our your help! Much appreciated.
