Installation of InfraWorks 2021 or 2022 (does it overwrite C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks)

Hi,

I'm looking to update from 2020 (version 20.0.25.0) but concerned that my InfraWorks folder will be overwritten. Last time I updated I lost all of my custom assets/styles/models/materials and some built-in assets such as 3D Models.

Has anyone updated and experienced issues as a result? I have a lot of ongoing projects/models and very concerned about corrupting them again. Also, can you tell me if the InfraWorks folder is overwritten?

Many thanks for any help, advice or insight.

Cheers,

Steve

What's up Steve? Luckily this doesn't happen anymore. You will be required to uninstall your current version and installing the latest is pretty easy. All your projects will show up on the home page of InfraWorks as expected.

Hi Todd.

Thanks for the reply buddy. I'm a little less apprehensive about updating now. I'm going to back everything up just in case but hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Hope to catch you at one of your legendary classes at AU Las Vegas in the near future. Take care buddy.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Todd,

Just a quick update and a warning for others. I installed 2022 but found that the same thing happened as last time. All my models are corrupt and all my custom assets are missing. During the installation all the shared assets are deleted from the InfraWorks folders, so when I opened the upgraded models it can't find the assets.

Cheers,

Steve

@srksphillips I am curious what you mean by the models are corrupt. Is it due to missing styles?

The uninstall of Infraworks removes the data folder (C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks\Resources by default) like any other uninstall process should do. So if the custom files are there, yes they will be replaced. But you should be able to copy them back and your models should pick it up as before.
