Infraworks 2020 - Model builder issue

Hello community,

I would like to ask if anyone has the same problem as I do. In IW 2020 20.0.25.0 I tried to use model builder but seems that that some options are missing and no model is created.

I tried to log off/on but no change. Czech republic (Europe). I was quite interesting about creating local model with MB but seems that I have to solve this problem first.

Hi Jakob,

This is actually a new workflow that exists by design. Don't worry, it actually will work, the workflow has just changed a bit. Here is information about the new workflow:

1. Once you click Create, the new Model Builder model will appear on InfraWorks Home as a cloud-only Model Builder model, which is not yet locally cached on your machine or associated with a BIM 360 Document Management project. Note: The new model tile will display this icon:2. Click the model tile.

3. A dialog will appear, prompting you to choose how you want to store the new model.

If you select BIM 360, you will be prompted to select a BIM 360 Document Management project folder to store the new model in. If you select Local, the model will be saved to your default cache location, as defined in Application Options.

please let me know if that works out OK for you!

Best, Elliott

Thank you Elliott. You are absolutely right. Strange thing is that the dialog did not appear for the first time when I opened the model.

One more question. When I try to export the model it says that extent is not inside the coordinate system.

My location is in Czech republic.

Model coordinate system CzechJTSK/5B.Krovak the same as target coordinate system during export.

krovak.png

Everything works fine in previous version. When I choose different system during export, I can export the IMX and import it to the right coordinates in Civil 3D.

The problem is export SDF from CIvil 3D. The SDF does not appear in infraworks (incorrect coordinates). So I guess that the internal UCS system is somehow corrupted.

Do you have an answer now jakub? I got the same problem "invalid export Settings:

The given extent is not inside the defined boundaries of the target coordinate system."

The 3D Export doenst work with CzechJTSK/5b.Krovak.

But it works with the ETRS89.UTM- 33N.
I imported SHP files from C3D and choose the CzechJTSK CS everytime.
Any Idea to solve it?

Hi all,

I have the same problem with an infraworks 2020 model created by Model Builder in Switzerland.

The Coordinate System in this case is CH1903Plus.LV95/01.

I am sure this is the right one.
Connecting wth Civil 3D to the model I work well.
But when I export a 3D Model, for the entire model or for a Bounding Box, the message is :
"The given extent is not inside the defined boundaries of the target coordinate system"

I am sure this message is wrong, but how can i resolve the problem?

Many thanks!

Hi @gperego ,

there is specific issue for Swiss Coodinate Systems in InfraWorks right now. The explanation is that InfraWorks checks for valid Coordinate System boundaries and obviously this check does not work correctly.

The development team is currently working on a fix for that, stay tuned.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi Karsten,

Many thanks for your answer.

So we are at two coordinate systems with problems... 😞
This is only for 2020 version or also 2019?

I opened an other post, because this is marked as solved.
You can dind at:

I also work with the Swiss coordinate system CH 1903Plus_1.LV95/01 (see screenshot in the attachment). The model is ready to be opened but in the middle of loading I am told that the model can not be opened and the project disappers (see screenshot).

Hello @peter.petschek

Looks like the problem you are running into with regard to model not opening isn't related to the other topic in this thread, which is already marked as solved. May I request you to start a new thread and let us know the following so we can follow-up with your situation specifically?:

1. The version of InfraWorks you are using

2. If the problem is reproducible, please provide steps.

Thank you
