InfraWorks 2020.1 - Model Builder and New buttons missing

After installing InfraWorks 2020.1 and fighting through the "Let's Get Started" window, I realized that the Model Builder and New buttons are missing from my home page. This usually indicates that you are in "viewer" mode because no license is available... yet I show that I'm signed in.

Thinking there was a problem with my Sign In, I completely uninstalled InfraWorks 2020.1 and reinstalled InfraWorks 2020.0. After signing in with my same account, the Model Builder and New buttons are available which indicates to me that my sign in and license are valid.

I tested 2020.1 on two computers with the same result. I cannot create new models using InfraWorks 2020.1.

This looks to me to be a major problem. I'll have to stick with 2020.0.

Hi @Partenheimer , I'm guessing you are using InfraWorks from the AEC Collection which has Multi-User support now?

Did you add the correct InfraWorks Package Feature Code (PACKAGE 87387IW360P_T_F adskflex 1.000 COMPONENTS=87387IW360P_2020_0F) in your existing LIC file?

From 2020.1 on, there is a difference between being signed-into InfraWorks Cloud Services, like BIM360 and Model Builder, and getting an InfraWorks license due to the AEC Collection. To properly do this you need to have checked out a network license in InfraWorks and an InfraWorks Named User license needs to be assigned to you. This is completely different then all other network licensed applications.

You can read more about multi-user access for Autodesk InfraWorks in this FAQ.

Hi @Partenheimer ,

from my understanding, if you had an assigend InfraWorks license before there should not be a change when upgrading to InfraWorks 2020.1.

Is it possible to send the InfraWorks 2020.1 log files from C:\Users\<<USER>>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk InfraWorks\logs ?

Regards,
Karsten.

I logged in with Expert Elite license no problem because it's a single user, but the multi user is screwed!!

The AEC Collection license with which I've been accessing InfraWorks is a Multi-User AEC Collection license. The license file itself was generated in May so it does not contain the IW360P_2020_0F component needed to serve a license to InfraWorks.

I'll have to generate a new license file(s). That is night work since our policy is to not "stop" our network licenses during production hours.

So... to check this while that process is in the works, I've unassigned myself as a user from the AEC Collection and assigned myself to one of our InfraWorks licenses... Once I did that, 2020.1 works with a full license (rather than viewer mode only).

So... from this I must conclude that:

1) InfraWorks "knows" that my sign-in is from an AEC Collection Multi-user license.

2) The physical license file must include the InfraWorks component in the AEC Collection component listings field.

3) Existing license files do not include the InfraWorks component so new license files must be obtained and put into operation.

As soon as I compile a new corporate license file to include the infraWorks components for each of our AEC Collection contracts, I'll update the license server, reassign myself as an AEC Collection user, and test 2020.1 under that criteria. This won't happen anytime soon. I'll report back as soon as I am able.

i provided feedback to that FAQ

one of the questions

Is there anything we need to do to minimize the risks of disruption?
There should be no disruptions to current installations of InfraWorks.

This is not true

i told them a new license file needs to be generated

Hi All,

I have just retested the complete upgrade process:
- Installed InfraWorks 2019.3 on a computer with AEC collection using network license server
- Single User license worked for that version
- Upgraded to InfraWorks 2020.1
- During startup the option to selecte a single user or multi user license appears
- When selecting single user - InfraWorks starts fine
- When selecting multi user the error message appears (because the network license does not have InfraWorks included yet
- Solution: Change to single user again from the program or create a new network license file for the license server

Was there no option to select the license type after you installed 2020.1 for you?

I agree that it would be nice if there was a message in the FAQ that a new network license file is needed to get it running via license server.

Regards,
Karsten.

As noted in my OP, when my user account is linked to our AEC Collection Multi-User product, single user sign in does not work at all for me in 2020.1 but does in 2020.0.

2020.1 works for me when my user account is linked to our InfraWorks stand-alone.

I have obtained new license files and changed my user account back to our AEC Collection. I will test after I have the opportunity to ReRead the license file in the server software. I expect it will work.

Bottom line: Selecting Single user is not a valid option for me in 2020.1. (Except for Viewer mode)

@Anonymous,

Here are screen shots of my experience:

After sign in:

03.jpg

I do not want a 30 day trial...

So I select "Already have a license?".

Which brings me to:

04.jpg

So I close the window using the top-right "X".

Which gives me Viewer Mode where I am logged in with my account.

Yup, @Partenheimer , mine does the same thing. The amount of money people are losing in production time doesn't work with all these upgrades. It's starting to become rather ridiculous.

Hi @Anonymous, @DarrenP, @Anonymous,
First off, just wanted to apologize for the troubles you've been having with your upgrade to 2020.1, re: multi-user licensing changes. You are correct - what you have been experiencing is not ideal, and we could have done a better job addressing this in the FAQ in advance.

It looks like you have already identified the causes/solutions, but nonetheless I am looking into your questions/findings in more detail, and will report back my formal conclusions as soon as possible, so that I can confirm what you've experienced, and verify the proper solutions.

Hang in there, talk to you soon!

Best,

Elliott

Network License File followup:

Our new AEC Collection license files are in place and active. InfraWorks 2020.1 is working. I tested my installation on 2 computers, 1) with other Autodesk products already installed and 2) with no other Autodesk products installed.

Computer 1) I selected "Multi User" at initial open and was done.

Computer 2) I selected "Multi User" at initial open and was then presented with another window where I had to enter the name of the license server.

My observation is this:

Our firm uses Autodesk products in a managed environment. For all other AEC Collection products, my users do not have to select "Single User" or "Multi User" or know the name of a license server. Nor, in my opinion, should they have to.

But I'll take what I can get. Network licensing saves me having to track individual employees; who's new throughout 20 offices or who's no longer here. And that saves me time.

Michael Partenheimer

I am having the same issues and sent a private message to Karsten but had to copy/paste the log files as I cannot attach the files.  I am losing project time, data and have some unhappy clients I am trying to keep at bay.  I need a resolution ASAP.  Our reseller support group also has no answers on this one.  I am seeing the exact same issues as the other users have posted.
