Export of FBX - ok in Navisworks but looks wrong in other applications

Thanks in advance for helping me, anything pointing me in the right direction will be much appreciated! Trying to get all my data into the Autodesk-systems in a good way.

I did the following:

- I imported an FBX (terrain with texture) in InfraWorks.

- Exported it to FBX

I then opened the new fbx file in Autodesk Navisworks Manage (tried 2018,2019,2020)

Looks ok.

I then tried to open the same FBX file in other software. For instance Autodesk FBX Review (v1.4.1.0) and the texture does not fit.

The reason I first need to import the FBX into Infraworks is that If I open the original FBX-file directly in Infraworks it looks like this:

It seems that Autodesk FBX Review and Infraworks handles fbx in a certain way, while Auodesk Navisworks Manage 2020 handles fbx-files in another way.

Since the GEOMETRY/SURFACE looks ok, I assume it has something to do with the texture-definitions. Unfortunately the FBX-files are binary so they can not be compared "visually" and the "Autodesk FBX Converter 2013.3" just gives me a warning when I try to open the "FBX Explorer" making it unusable.  "Ony three FBX Explorer Maximum". Are there any other tools to dig out details regarding an FBX-file, header, metadata etc?

Hi @Anonymous ,

unfortunately, the FBX file format exists in various versions. The FBX will display differently depending of what software you open it with and if the software supports the FBX file format.

In Navisworks manage, try to export the FBX file again using an older FBX version (for example 2014).

Karsten.

Thanks you @Karsten.Saenger for the very quick reply.

In my application that generates the FBX in the first place I have the following options on writing FBX:

I have tried both 7.7 and 6.1 without any luck in opening them in Navisworks MANAGE. The files are displayed correctly in Autodesk FBK Review

It seems the application uses the

Autodesk FBX Software Developer Kit

https://www.autodesk.com/developer-network/platform-technologies/fbx-sdk-2019-0

so then the question is, is it possible to create Navisworks Manage compatible using the fbx SDK - and if yes, which parameters should be used?

I'll repost my question here, but thanks to leading me in the right direction! : https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fbx-forum/bd-p/area-b64
