Enscape is a plugin that runs directly within Revit. It is not an external program. If you can't import something into Revit, then you can't really import it into Enscape. There is a way to add custom items to Enscape's entourage, but I doubt that they anticipated using to import a large site context model. It's worth trying, anyway. If I have success, I'll certainly come back and shout it from the rooftops.

[EDIT: Enscape does have the ability to import FBX files, but the are intended to be less than 20,000 faces. While it may successfully import larger files than that, it will display a message regarding diminished performance, and may even crash.)

The FormIt route is also not effective because it wants to treat large files as masses.

If I had a way to use 3DS Max as the export/import medium, without needing to learn all of that massively complex program, I would. I just haven't gotten good and consistent results.

One method is IMX/FBX to civil3d (older version for FBX import), convert to
dwg, link to revit family and revit depending on purpose. That way you can
get revit editable iw topo and static family geometry as generic model that
gets presented right in sections.

Thanks Ron, but this doesn't let me get IW content into Revit. It treats IW as the final destination for presenting Civil 3D and Revit content. I'm wanting to use IW for my conceptual site modelling and site context (adjacent buildings, roads, satellite imagery, water bodies, etc.) and bring all of that into Revit so that I can render it using the Enscape plugin.

The closest I've seen is Andy Clark's 2015 AU Presentation, Gaming the System - Combine AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, InfraWorks and Gaming Engines, but he is using Lumion for his renderings, which allow for FBX import of IW files, and runs outside of Revit in a separate application.

You won't get the textures - but that is how we got the topography  into Revit. Froom there REvit can render it. Not unless upi export IW as FBX.

Agreed there is an issue with bringing in IW to Revit as it was designed to go the other way round.

Wonder if Enscape is working on an infraworks plugin ? : )
