Does Infraworks not do something as common as sidewalks through intersections?

About a week into Infraworks and I can't figure out for the life of me how to get sidewalks to cross intersections, or at least make the appropriate breaks in the curbs without completely messing up the intersection as a whole

Hi,

I encountered the same problem and haven't been able to find a solution yet. I used ModelBuilder to import a part of Vienna, where many intersections are broken because of InfraWork's issue with sidewalks.

If someone knows a way around this, I would be interested in a solution as well. I'm working with InfraWorks 2019.

Thanks in advance,

Rebecca

@chris.mcguinnQZGP3,

Welcome to the forums! I hope you find all of the answers for your Infraworks questions here! Great idea for a post and question. There are methods that you can tweak the software to do this via using different object types, but I think you were asking specifically if there was a Out Of The Box methodology to accomplish this in a conventional format.

In short, no, not directly, but this is a great idea to post on the InfraWorks Ideas I am sure they would really appreciate hearing about this. It seems like it should be integrated in to the suite already, however it is not at this time. I hope you'll take advantage of the listening station as the developers do pay attention. Thanks for a great question!

Thanks for the reply Copper.  Do you know if there's any info on these tweaks? with object types?  My boss loves the presentation this software provides but really wants to show ADA ramps at the intersections.

@chris.mcguinnQZGP3,

Thanks for your reply. I did some digging and began to try some of my tricks, and the best I could do is breaking the curb/ sidewalk components and giving the sidewalk a slope that meets the roadway. But...Well...I misspoke. There is not a great way to do this other than doing the finite modelling in Civil 3D and then bringing those object into Infraworks.

Importing a Civil 3D drawing into InfraWorks

Learn to import a Civil 3D drawing into InfraWorks and then configure the project details. In this video, you import a plan production drawing to create a visualization for a road.

  1. In InfraWorks, click the Create and Manage Your Model icon. Click the Data Sources icon. InfraWorks treats a drawing file as a data source.
  2. In the Data Sources window, select AutoCAD Civil 3D DWG from the Add File Data Source drop-down menu. Browse to specify the DWG file to import.
  3. Select the new road surface and the corridor coverages in the Choose Data Sources dialog box.
  4. In the Data Sources window, double-click on the coverage area to configure the data source. Select grass as the style rule default. Configure the terrain source as well.
  5. In the drawing area, select the right and left lanes. You want to apply asphalt, instead of grass, to the coverage area.
  6. In the coverage window, click the Rule Style icon to specify Surface Dark Grey Asphalt for the road surface. Also specify style rules for the gutter and sidewalk surfaces.

See "Importing an InfraWorks model into Civil 3D" for details on importing from InfraWorks.

Ah yes, we are aware of the Civil 3D -> InfraWorks component.  Our company was really looking forward to using InfraWorks for conceptual ideas for demonstration/comprehensive plan purposes.  Mind you, it excels greatly in every other aspect.  I've been creating/bringing models in from 3ds/FormIt, using pictures as building textures, playing with elevations, getting various slopes just right, etc.  After all of that, my boss says "where's the ADA ramps in the intersections?"... "Apparently it can't do that".  Heck even making a sidewalk go through a road throws it off and looks funky lol
