Convert to desing road simplifiles geometry too much

Hi,

I create shapefile with polilne, them drape on  my road .

I want convert this road to  design road,  but when I convert road to design road-  it's  look's bad.

I want create a patch  camera form  this road exactly same like my shapfile poline  ( it's 38km....end i  rly don't wany crate my own road.... )

Before

What to do ?

Hi @Anonymous

I do not fully understand why you are creating a design road ot of the shape file.

Am I correct that you have a road already and you want to create a camera path to follow the road?

If I am correct, why don't you use the shape polyline directly as a Camera Path?

See InfraWorks 360 Help: To import point data as a camera path

Converting geomtry to design road will also change geometry in some grade.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi @Karsten.Saenger

I tried to use tihs tool ( on this topic   http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-360-general/camera-patch-from-sdf-file-fail/m-p/6444755

I explain another problem... )

This project it's little difficult. 1st I created road in  civil 3d.

In INFRAWORKS I only have coverage area end surface TOP  from road.

If will  be possible to  use, this polilne from camera patch  will  be graet,  but I need something thing to do :

-   distance to target

-   horizontal offset

-   verticsal offset  etc

On this simple tool like importing camera patch - I dont have this thing's.

Edit :

Other problem it;s created shapefile 3d from polilne -  when i try import to INFRAWORKS i get this message :

camer apatch.png

shot details :

The selected file does not contain point geometry......

It's polin3d with geometry points and Z elevation.

Hi @Anonymous

I do not agree that you must use SDF format only for a camera path import, like you mentioned in the other post. Shape, db and sqlite formats are also possible.

I agree that camera settings in InfraWorks are limited. If you like to have full camera control you will need to export your model and import it as 3D file into 3ds max for example.

When you say "it looks terrible" what does look terrible exactly, for example is it not smooth?

The points of the path are used as keyframes and the program interpolates the distance between the keyframes. If it is not smooth enough try using less points.

See also http://knowledge.autodesk.com/article/InfraWorks-Camera-path-along-curves-is-choppy

And: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-general/converting-cogo-points-to-autocad-points/td-p/2539895

How about this workflow:

  1. In Civil 3D MEASURE your 3D Polyline or if it's a 2D Polyline, get Cogo Points via CREATEPTALONGPOLYCONTOUR
  2. Select the Cogo Points and EXPORTTOSDF
  3. In InfraWorks import the SDF
  4. For the Elevation select the height attribute+X meter
  5. Adjust the look direction for the keyframes if needed

Regards,

karsten.

Yes,  i  do  exactly the same that u wrote...but no successs

There u  can get my dwg file inc. cogo point

http://www112.zippyshare.com/v/WtqkgI6I/file.html

i EXPORT to SDF file them bring camera patch as well and :

I try many other setting but  "horrible loks " is

ok  seem's that we solved problem

Keyframe expreesion must be changed : not autogenerated but from  point   1-2-3-4-5

Autogenerated create camera patch  1-10-100-30

And we must add Geometry Z

Exporession is : elevation +1

Hi @Anonymous

I have created a screencast og my workflow - it's one of various was to create a camera path for InfraWorks.

Notes:

  • The SDF or Shape file is 2D, elevation are stored as attributes. InfraWorks does not support 3D Shape format.
  • In InfraWorks, if the point numbering is in order, you don't need to adjust the sequence.
  • If you use a feature line it will create points with elevation - otherwise you will need to use a 2D polyline and get elevation from the surface (CREATEPTALONGPOLYCONTOUR)
  • In InfraWorks you might need to adjust the view settings for keyframes - the program will interpolate between keyframes

Karsten

THX !

I wrote yesterday that I  solved problem, the key to  the solution my porblem is your screencast from 2:40.
