Buildings from SHP Address Point

Hello,

I am familiar with creating buildigs from SHP footprints and randomizing the facades and roof lines.  My current project only has address points (location where a building is) as an SHP file.  Is there a way to generate a random building footrint from these single data points.  I understand that there is no way of creating the "actual footprint" boundary.  I just need a foot print that shows perhaps a range of general residential type buildings located at those address points.

Thx.

Absolutely. You can apply a 3D model to your points and then, using the style rules, you can "randomize" them as needed.

On my blog HERE I show how to create a style rule based on a specific piece of data. If you're address points have a piece of data that you want to style based on, this would work. If not, you can always apply the same style rule with multiple different styles and it will randomly apply one of those styles to the point.
