Automate styles based on layer name

Is there a way to set automatic styling based on the name of the layer inserted.

so if you added a .shp titled “security-fence1” for example it will automatically recognise it as a barrier and apply a set style?

Hi @matGAJ5U ,

style rules are based on attributes.

I'm not sure if you can make it working with file names.
But if you copy the filename to the feature attributes, you can definitely create a style rule based on "name".

Thanks Karsen, So how can I make this work with my current workflow. At present I export a polgon from Civil (lets call it securityfence) using Mapexp as a .shp or .Sdf. I then import into Infraworks and have to style the layer every time. I need a way to speed up that process and streamline it because its quite time consuming. Many thanks in advance 🙂

Hi @matGAJ5U ,

you need to create a data table with a property in Civil 3D and export the shape file with the needed properties already (i.e. Name).
Alternatively, load the shape file into any GIS application (i.e. free QGIS) and add the shape properties there.

Once you know the property name, you can create a style rule in InfraWorks.

Regards,

Karsten.
