3D Land Cover

Is it possible to import a shapefile for a grass area as city furntiure and apply a 3d grass?  Tried a shapefile as land cover and it worked properly.  Deleted the shapefile and tried again as city furniture with 3d grass and it didnt work.  Just wondering if there is a setting i need to adjust or if it just isnt possbile.

Thanks

Hi @jheinrich2P5EG ,

each feature has it's own properties depending of the feature type. There are "point", line" and "area" features. While a "coverage" is an area feature, a "city furniture" is a "point feature". Therefore, you cannot use a data source that represents and area for points and vice versa.

Regards,

Karsten.

I was simply exporting a shapefile from the Civil 3d software using mapexport.

I was thinking of drawing grass in 3D. Use AutoCAD 3D surfaces. Import the grass as City Furniture. Use Stand of Trees, select the 3D grass object to apply over the coverage. It might get CPU & GPU intensive.

I had the same issue with importing shapefiles for 3D grass as city furniture—it worked fine as land cover, but not for furniture. Maybe there’s a setting, or it might just not be possible. Have you tried using Remi Pro APK  to enhance visuals? It's great for improving image quality

You can indeed populate large areas with grass or other vegetation using shapefiles, however I would strongly recommend using it sparingly for performance reasons. It's hard to even see the grass models until you are close to them anyway so a good approach is to mix 3D grass with grass materials.

You may find using a custom multiscale grass materials more realistic for your scene (see below). I have modified a copy of the existing multiscale grass with Photoshop to match my scenes more closely. You can find a tutorial online somewhere. Note that in the image above I have used a multiscale grass material AND the built in 3D grass models.

When I setup grass/vegetation, I import and set the Type as Trees. The first thing I do is go to the Table tab (in the Data Source Configuration Dialogue box) and set the object spacing to something sensible. If you overlook this it looks like there's nothing in the shapefile's extents! Next I set the Object Spacing Variance to randomize the spacing.

Cheers,

Steve

It seems like you're facing an issue with applying 3D grass to a shapefile used as city furniture. While shapefiles work well as land cover, applying 3D models like grass to city furniture may require additional settings or adjustments. Double-check the 3D object settings for city furniture and ensure the correct attributes are assigned. If it still doesn't work, it could be a limitation of the software for 3D objects in that context. It might be worth experimenting with other object types or looking for specific documentation on handling 3D grass in city furniture.

It seems like you're having trouble getting 3D grass to display on your city furniture builds in Minecraft. While 3D models work well for landscapes, applying them to city furniture might require some tweaks. Double-check your resource pack settings and make sure you've assigned the right blocks and textures to your city furniture objects. If it still doesn't work, it could be a limitation of the game’s rendering for certain object types. Consider experimenting with different block designs or reviewing Minecraft game modding documentation for guidance on using 3D models effectively. Happy crafting!
