Railway maintenance is a very complex subject, due to the number components, the fact that is super important to avoid any kind of component failure, and to minimize any service breakdown .Predictive maintenance can help reduce maintenance costs by minimizing the need for emergency repairs and reducing downtime.
As we know maintenance is most probably planned based on the current condition of each component. So its seems logical that a digital twin would be of great use in predicative maintenance.
How do you think digital twin will be able to support predictive railway maintenance in the future? And what do you think will be the main role of AEC solutions to enable this?
Great Topic.
I think Digital Twin has the potential to enhance railway maintenance, and there are many existing examples (some partial), but sufficient as proof of concept. IOT is developing, and it can be integrated into railway components in several ways and with the proper linkage with a digital model. It boosts monitoring, and if mixed with machine learning and data analytics, we can achieve automated protective maintenance.
