change sub assembly visibility within linked files

There are posts on this here and here, but my search does not turn up an idea-station suggestion, so please either point me to one if it exists or consider this a suggestion!

It would be nice to be able to change the visibility of sub assemblies within linked files. You can turn on/off an entire linked file's visibility, but you can't turn off individual subassemblies (if they exist) within a linked file, from the linking master file.

It would be nice to have a linked file of lets say bolts.  You're working on an assembly with bolts from this file all over the place on it and you only want to see the 1/4-20 grade 5 bolts. It would be nice for work flow to be able to do that.  or it could be stock trim pieces, or optional parts for an assembly.  You want to see only the option 2's and hide all the option 3 and 4s in the drawing.

What you are really asking for is library functionality that allows you to pick from a slection of library parts.

However, this would be an etirely differnt idea.

In general, for standard, off-the-shelf purchased parts that are not going to be modified I personally would break the link. If you never change the design of the linked part there is no reason to maintain the link.

Hey there, thanks for the idea. We want to do this, but we'll need to make in-place editing of reference designs available first in order for this to work. We have this captured and are changing this idea to a Future Consideration.
