Almost anytime i try to select a folder to pattern Solidworks crashes.  It freezes after i select the button, actually freezes with the pattern button depressed.  Any idea's here guys, i typically arrange my tools via a folder to keep things organized so this is pretty important to me.

Thanks,
AJ

AJ,

Couple of questions,
What are your PC specs?
What version of HSMWorks/HSMXpress do you have installed?
What version of SolidWorks?
Have you tried waiting for 15 minutes once? To see what happens?
Can you make a screencast of what happens? (https://screencast.autodesk.com/)

HSMWorks 2015 R2.38604
SolidWorks 2015 x64 SP3.0

Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz
8 GB Ram
Windows 7 Pro SP1.0
SSD 256 GB

Is this enough juice for HSMWorks?  Seems to run solidworks like a champ.

I can look at screencast later never used it before.

Forgot to ask, what does leaving it for 15 minutes do?  Obivously i can't wait this long all the time but maybe it fixes issue?

He is asking because you said crash. there is a huge difference between crashing and it taking a long time.

can you use the send feedback and give me details on what your trying to do so i can try it as well.

That should run it pretty good.

(For all autodesk CAM the more RAM and the higher CPU Mark score the better. But it runs on "slow" computers as well.)

other thing is how big is the swap file (virtual Memory) set for, rule of thumb for SW is 3 time the amount of ram.

another is how much Hard Drive space is left? if it has to keep spinning to find open sectors that will slow down also.

a good defrag never hurts as well as a scan of the HD.

A quick way to damage a Solid State Drive though  😉

I've attached a picture to show you what happens, i could do screencast but this sum's it up pretty well.  Stops working here.  Maybe at lunch i will let it run for an hour or so if i can remember.

Solidworks does not crash but i have to close solidworks and restart.

you might try generating the pattern, then moving the operations into it..?

And only selecting the folders and not what's in them if making the pattern first and then copying in works.
If making a pattern doesn't work, what happens when you add a pattern to a folder.

I would suggest making a main folder drag and drop the existing folders into it. Then right click on the main and add pattern. It sounds like the issue is having folders AND operations in the folders selected at the same time.

Update on this, looks like if i select folders and toolpaths this happens.  If i use control and just select the folder only it allows me to create the pattern.  Something worth fixing buy not a major issue.

Thanks,
AJ
