First of all, sorry for my poor english, i'm some french guy..
Anyway, for the font, i'm used to work with illustrator, which have the advantage to vectorize into dwg file, which can be imported in "esquisse" on inventor, and the lines are perfectly recognized by the CAM section.
So i can use any font for engrave text or other things.
I'm used to work with "graver en creux" which don't need to extrude but simply use the "contour" to select and a carving tool (60° for me).
I hope that will help you, because i had some issues with engraving text at first..
