Post Processor for Sinumerik 808D Turning

Post Processor for Sinumerik 808D Turning

Hello there,

i´m looking for a post processor for our Knuth Numturn420 turning machinen.
The Machine is equipped with a Sinumerid 808D Advanced Control.

Maybe anyone allready have a specific Postprocessor for Fusion 360 for this type ?

It would be really great, if anyone could post this processor, if available...

best regards,

Hi @thomas.roider ,

Have you tried our generic Siemens turning post processor.

It might work for you. Though, if it does not, we would be curious to know what changes should be made.

Thanks,

Will

Good morning Will,

Is the post processor in your link a general post processor for turning machines with siemens? I am also searching for a post processor for a turning machine with siemens 808d.

What can go wrong if i use this post processor and it's just not the right one for the 808d?

thanks in advance

Hi @EmielWbos ,

Yes, the post processor in the link is a general post for siemens lathes. However, I am not familiar with the 808D controller and am not sure if this post will work with this controller.

A few different things could go wrong... the controller could simply alarm out when you load the code or in a much more serious case it could cause the machine to gouge the part or break a tool.

If you are comfortable enough running your machine to stop it before something like this happens then I would suggest you go slow and pay close attention the first time you run code.  After a few parts you will have a better sense for of whether the post will work for you or not.

If it doesn't work you could request one of our post developers add a post for the 808D to our library if you are willing to test it out and they are willing to build it. Alternatively, you could work with one of our partners to get a custom post made which may cost some money.

Thanks,

Will

I just now tried this post processor with F360 to post for an Automate small CNC lathe with a Siemens 808D controller.  I immediately ran into a problem with homing the Z axis.  This lathe is a gang tool machine and requires the Z only to be homed.  To accomplish this, the post processor outputs the following line:  "G53 G0 Zx" (where x is the value of the Z0 position).  However this will not return the gang tool carriage to the correct location.  This controller uses multiple "tool edges" and to reset the Z to absolute home position requires the following statement:  "G53 G0 D0 Zx" (where x is the value of the Z0 position).  The "D0" resets the tool edge to zero.

I have been able to edit the post processor to accomplish this.  However I am not a pro, and my method may not be correct or universal.

Have another issue:  I can't get the produced .mpf file to include Manual Pass Through items in the F360 Manufacturing setup.

Found another issue.  If you try use canned cycles in the controller, the file produced will error out - complaining about invalid axis.

I have been able to solve my three issues above by editing the post processor (.cps file).

Hi! @ddufford @will_1

I am really new to these turning machine, and I have a machine that is from China that runs on the Siemens 808D so I am asking if the "Siemens Turning" post processor can get my machine to run? Without problem, but looking at @ddufford experiencing these problems, and fixing it, I wonder if i can get help with the post processor by you guys helping, or possibly sharing it.

Cheers, Peter
