Citizen Turn Post

Citizen Turn Post

I've seen several requests and discussions about a turning post for various Citizen Swiss lathe models in the past few months. While it might be too much to ask for a post to include multi-tool/mutli-axis elements such as pinch turning, I think the community would greatly benefit from a general Citizen post, including swiss spindle repositioning, the G600/G700 area codes, wait codes, sub-spindle pick off, etc.

Any programmers up for the challenge? Smiley Happy

I agree.  I could get A LOT of use out of a post for our Citizen A32 Swiss CNC.

You know you would only get it to run as a normal turning machine right?

And no machining on main and sub side at the same time etc.

As far as G-code goes, sliding headstock lathes function very much like "normal turning machines," except when it comes to being able to feed barstock and pick off the part. Like most posts, especially for the turning side of HSMWorks, it wouldn't be a perfect "post and cycle start" solution.

The Citizen post I'm suggesting would get HSMWorks users 75% there with basic Citizen-compatible code for the actual turning moves. CItizen programmers can divide the code from a post into $1, $2, or $3 (main, turret, and sub) for simultaneous work afterward, or the post could dictate where the work is done based on the tool numbers. For example, on a Citizen M4 tools 1-5 are on the gang, tools 20-29 are on the turret, and tools 31-33 are on the rear post.

@abrownAG8YF

All our turning posts are "post and cycle start", so that is where I'm looking at this from.

You can easily define the turret number in the tool, so it's not hard to distinguish between Gang, turret or rear post, but it won't help with if they can be done in what order so to speak. So it would still involve a lot of hand work for it to produces simultaneous movements. But that might still be better than hand programming, I have no experience with that.

I actually think most swisses could be programmed including overlap with just some simple post logic. At least, it's a much simpler task than tackling the same problem on a multi turret turning center..

Moving to "under review" in advance of separating out the post ideas from the general software requests. This was a batch process. So, this particular idea may still be archived.

Fusion 360 does not have a generic post for this machine in the post library nor does it natively support swiss turning at this time. However, I offer post processor development services and happy to work out the most complete solution possible for your machine! Message me if I can be of further assistance.
