Post for VF2

We have a 2006 FV2 that runs 24/7 and it goes through a lot of programs. Right now all i have is the generic haas post. I have a post for mastercam that is a dream to use. When i hit post I get a little popup prompt asking for Part Name, Print number, Rev Number, Programmer Name, and G53 Position at the end of the program. It puts all that right at the top of my programs and it looks nice and clean. I would also like the tool list to have the tool name and nothing else. also like block deletes in front of all coolant commands. I really just want it to look more like programs i get out of mastercam. I will attach an nc file.

Im using inventor hsm pro 2016. Any chance you know how to set up a post that way? I have no clue how to edit these posts and honestly dont have time to sit here and learn. I have parts to cut.

First point to start: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/post-processors/help-my-post-processor-needs-to-be-edited-now-what/td-...

Yes i have the knowledge, i sat here and have learnt and had also parts to cut, but it´s not my job to write your post processor, I like to help when you have questions but i will not do the work for you

When you will doing this yourself:

1. write in every edit field in the iProperties some text.

2. use the dump.cps to post your part, then you will see all the parameters are given out to the post

then there are lines at the beginning of the output file like e.g. 9: onParameter('inventor:Revision Number', 'Index -')

now you see the parameter-name ('inventor:Revision Number') and the value ('Index -')

3. now you can edit your own post

in the function onOpen add lines (after program name are written)

var revision = (hasGlobalParameter("inventor:Revision Number")) ? getGlobalParameter("inventor:Revision Number"): "Revision";

writeComment("Revision - " + revision);

and so on for all parameters you like to have in your program head

Im looking for someone to edit a post for me. I didnt purchase through a reseller so is there even a chance of having one of them do one without paying?

If i cant make it happen with either of those options it just wont happen and ill have to just live with the generic. The owner here isnt going to let me sit here and learn how to edit the post.

Well I wrote about what to do when you need your post edited: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/post-processors/help-my-post-processor-needs-to-be-edited-now-what/td...

And what you are looking for quick and without own input-effort I strongly suggest asking your local re-seller.

One of the big things stressed to me at an HFO event back in October by the inventor hsm rep was how easy it was to get posts and have posts modified. Is there a reseller that will do posts for free?

Not if you don't have any form of (support or maintenance)contract with them.

It's really easy to get posts modified. You put in a little effort and you will get help from the community. I write posts for fun in the evening on the couch. But I (and others around here) would like some effort from the person requesting them. Especially when it's cosmetic(Which this is).

I mean it's really eays since it's just javascript. Which a lot of kids learn in school.

And the post development team visits the forum as well and is willing to help especially when changes are needed for a machine to run.

So yes it's really easy but that doesn't mean you can expect people to give up their time for totally nothing.

I dont expect just anyone to give up their time. What the rep told me was that there are post develepors that get on the forums and modify posts for people. Thats why i posted in here in the first place. I dont know if they stopped doing that or what but that was one of the big things that had me and the guys where i work interested because it cost almost $800. to get a post for mastercam. I was told that back in october at the the demo day at HFO.

I have another thing that im not sure if it's a post issue or my settings. My code doesnt stay consistent. I used a 2d adaptive toolpath to cut two slots today and it posts way more line moves where mastercam would put arcs every time. But it puts those arcs in some places and lines in others even though it was a straight slot. At different points along the slot while it was cutting you could clearly see when it slowed down and sped up because of the line moves even though it wasn't changing the feed. I have that problem with line moves in a lot of my high speed paths. Ive tried so many different smoothing and tolerance settings that im wondering if its something to do with the post.

The post shouldn't matter for lines and arcs. But what kind of settings did you use for the tolerance and smoothing? Do keep in mind that the adaptive algorithm tries to keep the tool load constant and doesn't think as much about using arcs, but you should be able to keep it up at high speed at the machine.

I can fix it at the machine using the smoothing setting but our machine isnt new enough to let us switch between rough and finish. We use medium though. I understand that its trying to keep it constant but if its a slot isnt it pretty much the exact same move over and over just shifted? Why cant they all be arcs except whats actually a line move? thats what im trying to get.

Because what you see is small arcs and lines in each pass I guess. (Can't check the output here, will do in the office)

I mean they should indeed be very similar.

Ive tried all kinds of smoothing settings. So far .003 total and .03 smoothig has gave me the best results. Im taking your advce and trying to learn how to edit the post. How do i get into debug mode. I can take my mastercam post, pur it in debug mode, and see where in the post each line comes from. I could problbly figure this out on my own if i could see that. But how do i turn that on? I cant find anything online all morning now im just getting frustrated.

This is all i found and am not making much sense of it. I cant find those lines in my inventor post anywhere and am not sure where to put them.

the line:

var deBugPost = 0; // Turn post debugging off(0) or on(1)

on top in the post processor where all the others var are defined, e.g. after the last var definition.

and:

/**
Turn Post De-bugging On/Off
*/
if (deBugPost == 1) {
  setWriteInvocations(true); // tells which entry functions are called
  setWriteStack(true); // tells which functions are called for each NC block
}

outside of a function e.g. before the first function in your post

hi lewis,

any chance you have the steps to allow mastercam post processor to prompt questions as described?
