CR Onsrud with B&R Controller Post Processor

I just purchased a 2008 CR Onsrud 144P8D CNC machine with a B&R controller and am looking for the best post processor to use as a starting point. I have the AlphaCAM post processor that the last owner is willing to give me, along with some files that they have created and used to cut good parts on this machine that they are willing to also give to me so that I can see what their G Code looked like.  Can someone steer me in the right direction on where to start, please?  Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide me with!

I know we have a B&R post processor in our library. I will see if I can get it from our post team tomorrow for you to try...

Matthew - thank you for your quick response - such a relief to know that there is a likely strong starting point!

Matthew - I could really use the B&R post that you think has been worked on already.Could you ask around and see if you could scare it up for me, please?  Thanks!

@franktpw

I apologize for the long delay in getting this to you.  last week was crazy.

Attached is a post processor for you to try.  Please let me know if there are any errors or any changes that may be needed.

Thank you!

Hi Frank,

I'm wondering if you were successful with your post processor. I have a 2010 Onsrud Paneltech 120p12 with B&R controller. I think your post may be very close to what I need. If you could upload it I would really appreciate it!

Although its practically 2021, my feedback is that this "Laguna" post is a good start for an Onsrud B&R style controller, however as with any lineup of multiple brands, the callouts for tool changes, etc. will always be unique to that brand.

Thus is where I am doing respective post modifications as needed per my Onsrud router callouts.

Check out this vid to learn more about post editing and other automated commands i.e. m01.

Test test test. document. test. then hard write. Will try to return and share my final outcome.

There's a proven B&R post here if anyone is interested in buying / subscribing to one with support https://massif.dev/post-processors/c-r-onsrud-with-br-controller

Thanks oscarDFR2U -

I do have a solution, and would be happy to share it with anyone who might be looking for a solution.

Hi Frank, it turns out that the "Laguna" post was not the best starting point after all since it was to support a NON-Onsrud router cnc, the Laguna post requires post editing to change xy circular motion into i & j motion (which the machine uses).

About your solution...what did you have in mind?  It sounds like you were able to get  your Onsrud-B&R Cnc working.

What are your suggestions?

franktpw, after several half viable solutions I returned to check this post one more time and it seems to be the ticket home after some doctoring.  The Autodesk tech that "scared it" up for you   did   a good deed.

However I still wish to hear what the outcome was for your Onsrud.

Oscar - I don't remember exactly where I got the starting point for my post processor, but I went in and fixed up a few things and I have had a post that's been working well for four years without any problems. I'd be happy to share it with you. This is shared as is with no ability to ensure you that it will work as well on your machine as it does mine. I figured out how to make some small and simple changes to the post, and could give you a novice's help with changes that you might need. For example, I have a 5' x 12' bed - if your bed is smaller, you may need to change that in the post. My machine is a 2008 - if your's is a different year, I could imagine that you would need something different. This post works well with HSMWorks, HSMExpress, and Fusion (which uses the same engine as HSMWorks).

If you guys are doing this for your own interest, sweet as. But if you are doing it to save money, then I'm curious what value you put on your own time vs paying for a post which is working and proven out on a number of these machines.

franktpw,

thanks for sharing this specific post.  Although I was practically already done figuring out every bit of code our onsrud needed, using your share saved me the time and headache of modifying the post.

I only needed to omit a few extra lines  in Edit>Toggle Line Comment.

Shes a running like a dog in the wind!

Please know that although I  consider myself at the bottom of advanced cnc programming, that working with Fusion and this community is new as I have been fending for myself my entire career.

Also please make a note that all I'm learning here (coding, programming, and networking) I am promoting and spreading at my local high school, and yes even church!

Thanks Franktpw and Autodesk for the included support
