Personally, I couldn't care less about anything done "in the cloud". And if there comes a day where HSMWorks ( or any software ) works only in the cloud, I'll dump it faster than any need to change a stinky kitty litter box.

@Anonymous you just posted that comment onto the cloud. And you probably use email. Not all cloud options are a bad idea!

@Anonymous

This request is not about moving things to the cloud.

It's about getting your tools, feeds and speeds correct the first time. With the aid of a system that is used by a lot of different CAM and Tooling providers.

So, offer it as software that I own! This whole "cloud" metaphor is simply a disguise for you to be dependent on someone else's server. Yes, yes, there are certain things you can't avoid such as email ( for now ), but when the majority of software is only available on another computer, they have control of it, not you. The potential is there for that to happen. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I bet there isn't a single piece of software that you have paid for that you 'own'. You pay to get a license of software. It's not an asset, because you can't sell it. If having Cloud based CAD / CAM software doesn't work for you, then so be it. That doesn't mean it doesn't for anyone else. And really, that has absolutely nothing to do with this Idea. This idea as asking for any of the CAM products, desktop or cloud based, to connect to a valuable data resource, that is perfectly suited to being cloud hosted.

What are you, a lawyer? Try to take my software away from me that I do own and let's see what happens to you. And I do see 2nd hand software for sale. I think the idea you mentioned is good. I just don't like giving too much control to anyone or any entity.

Have you read your license agreement for the software you have licensed?

This would sure beat adding things manually. The manufactures should let us cam people do things faster with their product. Easy of use means more sales for them!

Archived without explanation?

These are the kinds of things we need an explanation on since it what could make the software future proof.

I don't think any of my ideas that got archived got an explanation unfortunately.

Hey Scott, have you heard of anything from anyone else on your subject of integrating machining cloud into hsm? I have recently started using machining cloud's services and they have been down right awesome. They are sticking to some great standards and not letting the tooling companies get crazy with the tooling layouts that usually confuse a guy. I would agree 100 percent that they should integrate this software with hsm or at least get the custom tool generator working to except tool collision/ or other model types that are available for download from tooling vendors online. I don't quite get all of this must revolve a perfectly clean drawing with only object lines and no construction lines. Not to mention even trying to revolve a manufactures available dxf  tool profile still wont work even though it revolves cleanly the custom tool importer says the revolve is not clean.

Let me know where your at on all of this. Are other CAM software's out there already accepting these downloadable tool collision formats? Were do you think machining cloud is going and how should it be used.( p.s. wish there was a better way to categorize your saved tooling/ holder assemblies better under the cloud platform.)
