Specify Post Processor in setup dialog box

Specify Post Processor in setup dialog box

Is there any way that we can select which post processor is used for a given program while in the setup dialog box?

This will be useful when i have 4 machines and the programs i run are dedicated to each machine, and i dont end up posting a lathe program to a milling machine.

In HSMWorks, this is done by associating a post processor to a machine configuration; since machine configurations don't exist in inventor HSM quite yet, i'm guessing it's not an option quite yet.

I have never had any luck sticking a PP to a machine configuration if it isn't in the currently default folder, FWIW. Makes for awful post testing since I have a proven posts folder and a testing folder, purposefully separate. I don't know why HSM handles folders so poorly, to be honest.

Great idea. While at it, why not add the destination folder to this page as well.

@Anonymous, That wouldnt be a bad idea.  I kinda have that specified in my post processor dialog box.

I guess the ultimate best of the best would be to have the post processor dialog box be in the post processor tab, and of course have machine simulation make its way to Inventor HSM!!!

Thank yall for the support!

In HSMWorks, creating a machine configuration for each machine, assigning a post processor is pretty straight forward. The individual post processors will retain the posting location (the default locations are resident in Windows Registry, for those of you brave enough to dig around). I've never had an issue with this regardless of whether I am storing post processors of machine configuration in the HSM default folders. In fact I use completely separate folders that are resident on the cloud via Dropbox so that I can bounce from one work station to another with out anything being different.

The functionality is there and I'm sure that as soon as machine simulation/configurations are implemented in both Inventor HSM and Fusion this will be a null issue.

The post processor default only works if the last directory is the same as the default post processor location. I have my testing posts in a separate directory from the proven posts and the machine configuration fails if the last post used is in a different directory.

Moving to "under review" in advance of separating out the post ideas from the general software requests. This was a batch process. So, this particular idea may still be archived.

  • Removed the "post" tag as that should be specifically used for post processors
  • Accepted the idea as this will be handled by machine configurations - currently in development.
