Did you mean:

Select same Diameter holes option "Within Boundary"

Select same Diameter holes option "Within Boundary"

I see often that a long part will be moved into the machine because it can't be made in 1 time.

I would be nice to select a boundary that defines in which area you would like to drill.

Smiley Very Happy No, I hat this situation twice in the past and yesterday at the customer I was having this situation again. So I came with this idea.

@Marco.Takx @al.whatmough

Pretty sure there is a discussion on this on the forum somewhere. Or in another Idea.

@Marco.Takx: Nice idea, if there are 100 holes in a part and you only want to machine 99, the only thing you can do now is seperatly select 99 holes. Your idea can solve that.

Read more about this here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-ideas/select-same-hole-size-and-length-while-programming-drilling...

It's been discussed in some recent webinars too I believe.

@Laurens-3DTechDraw thanks you - I thought we had talked about it a bit publically too. I couldn't find the place.

@al.whatmough maybe we should merge this Idea with the one on the fusion forum by NYC_CNC.

For the record, this is ticket CAM-8958 and we're expecting to start working on it soon.

Status changed to: Implemented

FYI this has recently been implemented along with a few other drilling improvements which together should improve Fusion and Inventor HSM's Drilling capabilities with large number of holes.

We hope to deliver the new functionality in the next major updates of Fusion 360 and Inventor HSM.

Here's a few teaser screen shots:

Thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated!

@porsbym Is this coming to or implemented in HSMWorks?

We have not discussed the priority of that yet.

@porsbym That's disappointing. I am always hopeful for parity between the systems but that seems to be fading in importance.

I was not implying that this is not important. But the feature was literally only finished today. Once we've had a bit more testing and feedback on this, we will surely discuss porting it to HSMWorks.

@Steinwerks  +1 to what @porsbym Said.

The simple fact is this was just done in Inventor HSM and Fusion 360 first.    The good news is this is UI work that can easily be put into HSMWorks also.

So, hearing your support of this idea makes it easy for us to prioritize moving this into HSMWorks.

Cheers,

Al

@porsbym I apologize, I didn't realize it was this close to the development work.

I didn't mean to sound overly harsh, but all the way back when Autodesk acquired HSMWorks there was discussion regarding parity and I've seen multiple improvements in InvHSM and Fusion 360 not make it back to HSMWorks yet, and frankly I fear this will become more common.

The company I work for can't go with the other solutions, we are SolidWorks through and through, and seeing features such as 2D Contour Tabs get left by the wayside - that I do need from time to time - is troubling. I am glad this is getting worked on, I do appreciate it as I am a personal customer as well as a company customer and EE.

Perhaps this discussion shouldn't be had in this Idea though, so I will see about posting it elsewhere.

Edit: @al.whatmough you posted as I was typing Smiley Wink

Thank you for your input, both of you, and your work. I look forward to future improvements as well!
