Make setting up the second setup easier in Inventor HSM

Hi Guys,

I am battling with the stock definition when I'm machining the other side.

I need to change the offset, of course, the actual stock stays the same when I flip it over so why can't it do that in CAM.

See this video.

100% agree. Doing my first programs in Inventor HSM today and running into the same issue. Doesn't seem to be a good way to create additional OPs, have the stock propagate, and change wcs. I'll try to think of workflows I think might be good and comment again later.

stock-> from solid..?

@Rob_Lockwood

More work?

I mean I get what you try to say here.

But this should just work like you do in real life and thus have the stock not change on you.

@Laurens-3DTechDraw - I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, just trying to show that there are workflows that make this not an issue.

I mean, i'd be disappointed to find out you don't (at a minimum) have an assembly containing a vise, a piece of stock, a pair of jobs and a few operations in it.. But that's not to say the suggestion is invalid. Some logic could be useful in making this more painless.

Made that sort of thing once, never use it.Smiley Very Happy

I guess this thread is about something different than I originally thought. For me, having subsequent setups able to recognize the stock remaining from previous setups is very useful.

@Anonymous - yeah, that's a separate issue that's somewhat solved in HSMWorks, kinda solved in Fusion (sorta) and I have no idea whether it's solved in Inventor (do you see a 'continue machining from previous operations' box anywhere?)

@Rob_Lockwood Same as in Fusion only on the turning side of things. But then it does work for the milling operations as well.

Be aware though that any Manual NC could ruin the fun of having rest machining there.

@Rob_Lockwood It is under the rest machining options. There is no option for it in the stock selection of a setup though.

Totally with you on this one!
