Importing a programed part into assembly.

Importing a programed part into assembly.

It would be nice if you could import the CAM side of the program into an assembly. A lot of times I program a part for a vertical to work on the design and prove it out then we switch it to a Tombstone on a horizontal 4 production. Now what I have to do is copy all the tools and to the assembly then pick all the geometry big waste of time. Especially when you got 60 tools and 180 geometry selections on a single part.

Charlie, do you use HSMWorks or Inventor HSM?

In HSMWorks.. Copy the entire job from the part file into the assembly, after the part and stock already exist in the assembly.

EVERYTHING should come over correctly, including tools, model/stock as assigned in the job, and geometry selections within operations.

If Inventor HSM and this isn't working... report as a bug, total crap if it doesn't work.

I'm using inventor 2017, if I use the place command or copy the part into an assembly it does not bring in the tools or setups.

Right, but if you place/copy the part into the assembly, then also copy the job/setup from the part into that new assembly, don't the tools/setups come in? and the geometry should find the missing references in the version of the part in the assembly, and they should be reattached..

I say should, because that's how it works in HSMWorks, and in inventor, the team has much better access to this kind of stuff, so I would hope it would work even better there.

It will only work on facing and adaptive it will not bring in any of the tool geometry.

I totally agree, this would be a real time saver!!!!

I have marked this under review as it is something we talk about often.

With that said, I should be honest and state it is something that is unlikely to be completed in the near term.

Why doesn't this work in the first place? Seems weird. I program a part in InventorHSM only to find out that it's better to maybe include parts of my fixture. The part did not seem so somplicated so I started just programming with the part file. But now I cannot move everything over to an assembly and add my vice/fixture so I can visually check if it all works?

Hello,

Is there a way to import an Inventor CAM file into an assembly now?
