Solidworks 2015 and HSM 2018?

When I open solidworks, it alerts me that there is an update available for HSM. I click on the download button, and the page it takes me to has no information about HSM - it lists all the other products I have a license for but not HSM. Is it just not possible to have a year mismatch with the software? I have to upgrade to Solidworks 2018 to use HSM 2018?

@karl_ehlers

Solidworks is not supported here so we have no clue what happens inside of Solidworks when there's an HSM update.  So I would suggest you use the actual HSM forum and see if they can assist you.

Hello @karl_ehlers,

You can check on the file combability between the two products to determine what file format to best save in. I moved this post to the HSM forum for you, this is a product related issue that a product specialist could better assist you with.

Thank you for posting to the community!

If Solidworks isn't supported here, where is the forum for Solidworks users now that HSMWorks/com is redirected to Autodesk.com?

Hi -

You can use HSMWorks 2018 with versions of SOLIDWORKS back through 2015.

Hi Jeff, is this the right forum for SW support?

As close as you'll get. We can certainly help you with HSMWorks questions/issues, and some about SOLIDWORKS too.

That's good news!! But now I am stuck on how to update - I see this dialog box pop up when I start solidworks:1.png

and when I click on it it takes me to this webpage, but there is no mention for an update of HSMworks on it.2.png

Do I just download the newest version of HSM online and my license should still apply?

What version of HSMWorks do you have now? Do you have a license for the 2018 version? If you do, then yes, you can just download and install the latest.

i have a similar problem and submitted a support ticket:

I'm trying to upgrade HSMWorks 2018 for Solidworks 2017. I used to download the updates from www.hsmworks.com/download/experimental/ but that link is now redirected to Autodesk. I downloaded the update from my account manager. The instructions http://cam.autodesk.com/hsmworks-2018-0-1-release-notes/ indicate that I won't have to remove the previous release but the installation fails with a notice that I have to uninstall the existing installation. I'm reluctant to do this because I don't want to screw up my licensing activation.

I have an educational license for HSMWorks 2015, I'm assuming that will not apply to HSMWorks 2018?

Right, it wouldn't. You can get a newer educational license for 2018 here:

Hi there -

Installing 2018 won't impact your 2017 activation, but with 2018 you need a new serial number and product key. These should be a available on the account portal (manage.autodesk.com), if you have a current subscription or maintenance contract.

I already have HSMWorks 2018 R1.41854 installed and I'm just trying to install the 41862 service update. Your online instructions say that I don't need to uninstall the previous version but the install fails and says that I need to uninstall the previous version.

The installer should handle the uninstall for you, but the message (under the yellow warning icon) is less than clear.

I pushed through the warning which as you noted automatically uninstalled the previous version. The installer requested my serial number and then reported it wasn't valid! I just waited on hold for 20 minutes waiting for a chat which was just canceled because no agents are available. It used to be so easy.

Hmm. Can you PM me the serial number and product key you are using?

Put the serial number on 2 lines, e.g.,:

  xxx

  yyyyyyyy

Otherwise, the messaging system will hide it.

Where did you find the serial number to use?

Thanks,

  Jeff

Hi Jeff, thanks for help. Everything was working fine before the update. HSM 2018 was activated with this serial number and even had the C13J1 suffix populated

HSM - Ultimate xxx-xxxxxxxx / C13J1

It's not showing me the serial number. Can you PM that to me, on 2 separate lines, or as a screenshot of your account portal?

Thanks,

  Jeff
