Importing STEP from desktop directly to Assembly as Internal Component

Hi,

I've searched around and have not found a way to directly import .STEP files into a model as an internal part. I'm trying to see if there is a way to insert a new component similar to using the "Insert McMaster-Carr Component" or "Insert a manufacturer part" command but with a .STEP file on my computer.

The reason for the ask is to prevent adding one-off component files to the project library and keeping them internal to an assembly just like the insert functions stated above.

Any ideas how I could achieve a similar result?
