Weird body link (?) after STEP import

Anonymous
Not applicable

After importing a step file (from the site "Vention.io" - not sure if that's relevant), there are bodies that are linked somehow and I can't edit them individually. Selecting one of them and creating a component creates a component for all of them.
Same for sketching if I select one of the bodies faces to start a sketch, and then extrude (or cut) that sketch, the same thing happens on all bodies. What is going on?

(Sorry not sure what to call this; a link? A pairing? I've seen the term marriage?)

Hi @Anonymous

Can you share the file so we can look at it? Are the bodies identical?

Cheers,

Karina

Hi,

here is a link: https://a360.co/2W80w0q

Yes, the bodies are identical. The model was created in Vention.io which is a aluminum extrusion building site, you use different pieces to build stuff - the issue occurs on the copies of any single piece.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous

So in Fusion there are two versions of "copy-paste". When you use "Paste" at the component level, it makes a new instance of the copied body, and any changes made to one will update to the other. "Paste - New" will give you a new version of the copied body, and is not linked to the original. In your file, you can tell that all of these parts are linked, as you say, by their names: "(name):1" "(name):2" means they are instances of each other.

In vention.io, they probably tag all these as instances so they know how to count your bill of materials.

If you want to make one independent, there's a handy button:

Cheers!
