Using Constructions Offset Planes

I have 2 simple sketches in 2 components (a center circle and a centered rectangle). They were both drawn from the sketch reference point. My question is how can I move my rectangle sketch to a Z axis offset construction plane so I can Loft the 2 together as 1 body?

Thanks for any help you can provide. Perhaps I’m going at this all wrong so any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

If the rectangle should be identical a loft is superfluous.
Then a simple extrusion is sufficient.
Only if the profiles have different shapes and/or sizes is the loft tool suitable.

They do have different shapes. In this case one is a circle and the other is a rectangle (this is not my actual design, just s simplified design  for explanation purposes). Thanks for you response. larsnavy

Move your timeline marker before the sketch you want moved, then move the timeline marker after the sketch.  In other words make sure the work plane occurs before the sketch you want to redefine.  Right click on the sketch and select Redefine Sketch Plane from the context menu.  Select the work plane and the sketch will be transferred.

I don’t recommend using Redefine Sketch plane as a workflow, use the Offset Plane before sketching, the articles on that plane,

Redefine Sketch Plane for anything not symmetrical, will flip the sketch to an unwanted orientation 90% of the time.  A known limitation. The work around for this is to project the new sketch from the old, or copy paste.

Might help....

Jhackney1972. Great. The offset plane has to be BRFORE the sketch. Thanks so much John. larsnavy

davebYYPCU. Yes and if my design was fairly simple like this sample I would do my sketches on the needed plane in F360. My problem is I’m 86 and have been using Imsi’s DesignCad since the 80’s and I just haven’t got comfortable with F360’s 2d cad so I make most of my designs in DesignCad and export them as a multiple layer DXF file into F360. Thanks for offering your advice and I will try to do more of my 2d stuff in F360

Thanks to both of you and I can call this closed. larsnavy
