Unable to Open Design

Hi there. After closing my project briefly I am now no longer able to open it. I get a message stating "Fusion isn't able to open this design at the moment. Please try again later... " Any idea why this is happening? Relatively new to Fusion360 here. There is an error that appears at the bottom right of the screen however when I click on it the message is completely empty. Cheers for any support.

@r.kahawita Sorry you are having this issue. This could be a lot of different issues that you are facing this problem. IF you don't mind can you go to Help - > Diagnostics & Support -> Diagnostic log files -> This will generate a zip file. Can you please attach the file here? This will give us some insights into what is happening.

Is this the only design that you are having this problem or is this problem for all your designs?

Hi Rajkumar,

Thank you kindly for the prompt response. Yes, this is the only design I'm having issues with (PEGgy_PCB_rev2). It had several components within it. I was suspecting a reference issue but I don't see how it could have arisen so suddenly nor how to resolve it without being able to open the model. I was up to version 26, so far I can still open up to ver 7 which was updated up over a week ago.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Find attached the files you requested.

Cheers!

Dustin

Thank you for sharing the log files. Definitely seeing some errors. I am trying to ask internally what the cause might be and what a solution could be. I will update here when I know more.

Hi @r.kahawita,

I'm a colleague of Rajkumar, and would like to work with you to resolve this issue. We've looked at the log files that you sent, and they seem to indicate that the versions you're trying to open have external references to other projects. Can you please try the following:

  • Try opening these versions from a different machine. Alternatively, try clearing your local cache (take a backup first), and then try opening those versions. You can find your cache here: C:/Users/<your Win ID>/AppData/Local/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/<your 12 digit cloud id>/W.login/F
  • Could you try exporting that file from Fusion Team (browser) as an f3z? If that works, try uploading it to a temporary, new cloud folder and report to us if that worked. If its appropriate, you can share that f3z with us and we can test it out too

Thx and regards

Hi Ahsan, Rajkumar,

Thanks for your replies.

  • Unfortunately, I don't have access to another machine at the moment.  I cleared my cache as per your instructions but still end up with the same error.  I also tried from the help->support and diagnostics->clear cache data within Fusion360 but still no luck
  • When I try to export the file from Fusion Team I get a red banner along the top of the screen which reads: "This assembly uses files in other projects. To share this assembly, you need Editor access to all those projects". However, under the "Design References" section it states "This assembly uses files in 0 other project" I have about 13 references that are currently used in the current project. How do I tell which references are missing?

If you have access to my files on the cloud, I dont mind you attempting to open it to better diagnose the issue.

Thank you kindly for your continued help!

Cheers,

Dustin

Hmm, that's indeed strange that Fusion thinks there are references to other Projects.
Do you mind inviting me to your project? My id is: ahsan dot ali at autodesk dot com?
Here's how to do it: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/getting-started/caas/screencast/Main/Details/8c9b1...

And no, we don't automatically have access to any of the customer files 🙂
Thx

Thanks for sharing the data.
We're in the middle of analyzing the problem. From what we can tell right now, it appears that one of the referenced files has been deleted, but the assembly is still referencing it. This should not normally happen, so we're still trying to figure out what could've caused this.
But do you remember knowingly deleting any of the child references?
Thx and regards,

Hi Ahsan,

Thanks for your continued support. No, I did not delete any child references - at least not knowingly. As few clues I've observed:

- When I open the design via the A360 web viewer I noticed that a component is missing -the AM3230 Temperature/Humidity sensor.

- When I try and roll back my design in the actual Fusion360 desktop app, the latest version which opens correctly is version 7, the version prior to me adding this model to the design.

So the reference issue appears likely to be linked to this component but I definitely did not remove nor delete it.

Hopefully, this helps track down the issue.

Cheers!

Hi there,
Just a quick status update. Our database backend team is trying to figure out the missing referenced file issue. Unfortunately, I don't have any ETA to share.
We'll also be working to allow the assembly to open even if it has some missing references. However, this change will only get to customers in a future major update. Not a hot-fix. If you need a quick fix, please send me a private message, and we'll try to manually fix the file for you.

Thanks Ahsan, I really appreciate the update and the efforts of you and your team. Yes, I will send you a private message; if I could get my design up and running again that would be grand.

Cheers!

I'm having the same issue, multiple designs cannot be opened anymore. Since there aren't a lot of components in them I've traced back the one that shows up as "corrupted". In the web design interface I can open it (it's a motor) and its shaft is missing I think that's the culprit.

Can I do something to fix it or the only way is to rollback to a previous version?

I've attached my Diagnostic Logs.

Thank you

Thank you for fixing the file. I've uploaded is as a new version of the original design.

I had to use the web version of Fusion to remove the broken reference from other designs.

Hi there,

I'm also expiriencing the same issue when trying to open the 2 latest versions /v11 and v12) of a project that I'm working on. However working on v10 is possible. I just added Ahsan Ali into the project to take a look because it won't let me export it because I can't open it, sharing a public link also gets me the same error message so I could only invite anyone into the project to try and fix that issue.

Cheers Moritz

Kind regards,

Hi Ali,

I am not sure what you mean by diagnostic files, also when I try to share a
public link of one of the assemblies it also presents me with the same
error message 😕 I am trying to find another way to send you the design

Kind regards,
Seán.
