Translation services fails exporting STL when saving individual

Hi,

I've made a design for 3d printing and need to export the individual bodies to STL's. When I hit "save to stl" in the root of the component browser, i can export the design to one whole stl successfully.

However, if I export with the "one file per body" option, the process fails with the following warning:

Error: Autodesk Translation Services failed to translate the current document to stl file!
Error: Autodesk Translation Services failed to translate the current document to stl file!
[... one error per attempted exported file]
Error: STL Translator failed to export data

Again, if I dive into the components tree and try to export one of the bodies individually, (e.g. not trying to do a batch export, but exporting all bodies individually) the process fails again with the same error message as above.

I have never had similar issues. I'm on a mac running High Sierra 10.13.5 and Fusion 360 Ultimate v.

2.0.4343

No features are throwing errors or warnings.

The images below show what doesn't work, and what works.

Any clue what may be wrong?

Thanks!

Hi @and.ranch.

Thank you for posting in the forum, and I am sorry to hear about the issue.

I can't identify what's causing the issue from the screenshot but would it be possible for you to share a public link to the design with me? I'd like to take a closer look at what is happening.

Hi Masanobu!

Thanks for you reply, and apologies for my late one.

Here you go: link to model

Thanks!

Hi @and.ranch,

Thank you for sharing the public link with me! However, I'm not able to download the file... Could you turn on "Allow item to be downloaded" option so I could download the file and test?

Hi @and.ranch,

Thank you! I tried Save as STL command with One file per body option on both Windows and Mac and it went successfully, and I'm not sure what caused the issue for you at the moment.

Does it make a difference if you download the file through your public link and upload it to one of your projects, and then re-try Save as STL?

I've attached a zip file that contains saved STL files for your reference.

Thats weird. But thanks a lot for supplying me the STL's!

I've tried downloading the f3d of the project from the public link above, uploading that to fusion on my computer and exporting STL's: same error happens as described above.

I've tried exporting models to stls in other projects with the "one stl per body" option: this also fails in the same way, which i guess rules out that the model is the culprit?

I've now uninstalled Fusion, run the Fusion360 cleaner.app, and reinstalled Fusion from the Mac App Store. The same problem occurs now.

What to try now?

Thanks!

Hi @and.ranch,

Thank you for your response! Personally I haven't seen this issue and I need to look into this further.

Could you try the following steps to see if they make a difference?

  • Change the save location on your computer
  • Cleanly uninstall (Click Yes to "Clean all cache files") and re-install Fusion using the installer in this page
  • Clear user cache data (This will restart the program. Please make sure to save files before doing this)

If nothing helps, could you attach the diagnostic log files?

Completely uninstalling, running the "fusion cleaner app" linked in my post above, and flushing the caches after installing worked. Thanks for the help! Cat Happy

I have the same experience here. It seems the service is not always available or simply bugs. I'm 100% sure it's not a user error. In a given project I can export a body 10 times without issues, and the 11th time it starts to give the above error. Trying again some time later and it works again without issues. No permission problems or problems with the model. I'm 100% sure that if I share the design with someone else they will be able to export it too.

For me this is a problem in Fusion 360.

I can't tell you what causes this problem, someone with a much higher pay grade than me will have to do that.  However, I can tell you what works for me when this happens (which is occasionally) - close fusion and restart and POW, just like that you are able to create the stl file.  I have used this method several times, works every time.
