SVG not able to select detail to extrude

Hi All!,

I'm new to Fusion 360.  I'm trying to extrude sections of my SVG file.  It's a complex image, I'm an artist.  My problem is when I try to select a part to extrude I get a very large selection that covers many parts of my SVG.  What am I missing?  I've watched a bunch of videos and read this forum.  My plan is to extrude each shape to different heights.  I was able to do this on another file where I sketched each shape.  I would like a way to break apart these selections.

Hi,

In the SVG, there are countless open connections that cannot be automatically eliminated with an external tool.
In sketch mode (Fusion) with the profile display disabled (Show Profiles), one could (if at all) only reach the goal in tedious detail work.

Got it. Thanks for your help! That sounds right.  It explains why some work and some don't.  Do you know of any software that will close open paths?

Hi,

I use V-Carve pro for this purpose.
With your graphic, there are undesirable vector connections in this process due to the numerous adjacent surfaces, which distort the original intent.
I would imagine that it would be worth considering creating multiple sketches and projecting the profile lines into each of them.

As you have been told, your SVG file has errors in a vast number of edges giving you the inability to select certain areas you wish to extrude.  I decided to try a double conversion using Convertio.  I first used the site to convert the SVG to a PNG image then used the same site to convert the PNG to SVG.  The result seems to have fixed most, if not all, the profile areas in the import sketch.  I have attached the converted SVG, see what you think.

So you could create separate sketches for profiles with the same extrusion values.
