Stop asking me to name each saved version

My original suggestion 6 years ago seems to have had a lot of support from other Fusion 360 users over the years, was accepted by Autodesk, and yet 6 years later I still find myself hating the "Add Version Description" dialog.

To recap, I want to be able to press CMD+S (or CTRL+S on Windows) and simply have my design saved without having to hit OK when the window pops up asking for a version description.

I can't think of a single time in the past 6 years where I've changed that description. That might just be me, and I'm sure some people use it, but I know I'm not alone in being annoyed at being forced to use it.

Not only is it annoying to have to take extra steps just to save your work, it behaves differently than nearly every other application that uses CMD+S to save changes made to a file. Consistency is important. Your software introduces friction that is frictionless in nearly every other application.

Consider this scenario as well, which, much like my original post 6 years ago, motivated me to revisit this topic today.

As I was working on a design someone knocked on my door. So out of habit I hit CMD+S as I left to answer the door. When I came back, there was the stupid Add Version Description dialog, proving I'd not saved anything before stepping away. To make matters worse, before I could click "OK", Fusion 360 crashed right before my eyes. I lost unsaved work, even though I have "Recovery time interval" set to 5 minutes (the lowest it will go).

If you want to allow for adding version description, perhaps you should introduce SHIFT+CMD+S to allow for that. Using that combo would bring up the Add Version Description dialog, while using CMD+S would behave like every other application ever made for a Mac and just immediately save.

Or let me just turn the feature off. Put an option right below the "Automatic version on close" that says "Automatic version on save" so I don't ever have to think about it again.

Hi,

I didn't find a recent crash report using your email address. If you used another email address I'm happy to look into the crash you mentioned.

Thanks,
