Re: Bring back the old file browser interface

Hello,

I do not get the full browser.

So if i want to move or copy one file form project 1 tot project 2 it is not possible.

If i want to insert a part from project 1 in project 2 it is also not possible.

Error: Inserting a distributed design from one project to another is not currently supported. (from fusion 360)

This is very bad. I can not manage my files. I cannot use a file which costs me 200+ hours for another project!!!!!

this is a dealbreaker.. i have to draw it again and i have to program my cam again.. this is crazy?!

Is this for real or do i have to reinstall? or please fix this fast.

Hey @budgen30,

I understand that this is a frustrating limitation of Fusion 360. Moving or copying bottom-up design files from one project to another has never been supported, although we are currently working on creating better file management capabilities.

One workaround for this is to download the file by sharing the public link, and then re-uploading the f3z file into whatever project you'd like to place it in.

Hopefully this workflow will suffice for you, but please let me know if you run into any difficulties.

Ok, i hope you can make this smarter. I am working with fusion for a limited time now. I progress and found this "problem". Which isn't intuitive for me. Also when there are more files during the "years" it is difficult to find files without a good file management system. I will try your solution later this week.

thanks for the reply!

I checked it and i don't think this is fault-proof.

Here are my findings..

A little bit time consuming.

If you "download", you get - after a few minutes - a email with a download link and have to download again.

I tried a small single file, which opens directly. recognizes windows/fusion. (*.f3d)

I tried an bigger file with some assembly parts. did't recognized by windows/fusion (*.f3z) why is this different?

I pointed to the program start file of fusion (open with ..)

when it opens i get an error:

copy-pasted-error-text:

Error: Fusion 360 could not open Kast_variant_taps.f3z becaue it is not a supported file type.

(maybe also change the spelling of because)

If i open the file, windows opens a second fusion program to open the file (if you have already opened fusion).

So i end up with 2 fusion program's witch is confusing.

Maybe you can windows/fusion open it in 1 program? (if you have already opened fusion).

I tried to view cam in the browser.

I also get an error.

error_fusion_cam.JPG

so, i think there is something not right, yet.

i did review my file and updated cam with no error's in fusion, but this error stay's.

At this moment it doesn't feel good. I miss the "grip" on my files. users need easy and transparant control with files;

- moving, replacing, copying, saving, backup, etc.

and all this also on there own computer (if they want: i do)

of course the basic principle of working online is very very good.

hopefully you can explain of fix the problems mentioned above.

The FZ3 file contains all the designs used in the assembly and can't be opened locally. In Fusion's data panel create a project and open, while in the project folder use Upload to import your assembly FZ3 file.
