Problem with sketch tool. Won't lock onto model edges.

For some reason the sketch tool does no longer lock onto edges or points on a model, unless it touches the sketch plane.

Before I was able to lock onto any part of a model, no matter where in the three dimensional work space, which allowed me to align the sketch with parts of the model that where physically removed from the new part I wanted to create.

Does anybody else have experience with this problem and know what could have caused it?

Autoproject edges on reference is probably turned off in the preferences.  Please take a look at your preferences, and if this is off, turn it back on again:

Thanks, that helped. I had looked in the preferences before but somehow missed this.
