If I copy a component, then do a paste new, should I be able to change features in the new component without affecting the original base component?
For instance, can I...
Extrude a body in original component 1 with a length of 10mm, then...
Copy component 1, Paste New, and then change the extrusion length in the new component 2 without changing component 1 (original)
I would expect paste new would allow me to do this, but when I try to edit the second, it still changes the root or base component, as though its just Pasted, not Pasted New.
Sorry for no video, hope my description works for the readers out there.
Thanks...Henry

Yep, that is the way it works. In my screencast, by the way there is no sound, I create a component with a length of 5 in. I then Copy it and then create a new file. I Paste New the copied component and change the length to 10 in. Switching back to the original, it is still 5 inches in length.

Sorry, I meant distance in the extrusion feature itself. I would like each to extrude a different amount. If I change the second, the first changes as well. Do you get the same? Thanks for checking. 🙂

I see the same results as shown in my first screencast. The new file component is completely independent of the original I copied from. I can change sketch dimensions and feature (extrusion) dimensions in the Paste New file and it does not effect the original. I suggest you create a screencast to show your issue. Maybe then we can diagnosis your issue.
