There seems to be a problem adding to a selection for offset after setting a distance. I'm sure in the past you could press Ctrl to suppress the offset then add faces, now you have to keep pressing and releasing the Ctrl button between each selection. Each selection goes straight to offset and you need to release the Ctrl key then press again. Hope the screencast makes it clear. With a zero offset you can add as many face you want.
