Model workspace missing when opening Fusion 360

Using the 30 day trial version.

Everything seemed fine for a few days.

Today when I opened Fusion 360 the Model Workspace was not visible.

The program opens in the Design workspace and the Model workspace is not on the pull down.

The first time this happened, I shut down and restarted my computer and it showed up.

This only worked once.

It's not showing up at all now even after reboots.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

Angie

Not solved unfortunately.

Only if you have UI preview as an option in preferences, which I do not

Uninstalled and reinstalled. Same thing.

Product is obviously unusable if you cannot draw a sketch in this thing.

There is no more "Model" workspace.  "Model" is now "Design" + "Solid" tool tab:

Likewise, the old "Patch" workspace is now "Design" + "Surface" toolset

Thanks Jeff.

That would explain it. Obviously I don't keep up very well 🙂

I'll see if I can figure out how to draw a line and we'll be off to the races

So apparently, my question should not have been that the model workspace was missing,

but that the sketch menu item is missing.

I think it is one of the biggies of a drawing software that you can draw a line.

Sorry if I sound a little frustrated.

The sketch tab is missing from the design workspace  ...

Any tips ?

I posted this in another thread.

I have a workaround you can try.

quote:

Thanks, I eventually figured out that I was behind the times with the Model to Design workspace thing.

My issue after that was that I could not see the sketch area in my design workspace.

A number of people above suggested the right click to reset the toolbar as a solution to this.

But the right click is not available for me as shown above.

A workaround I figured out was to click Create sketch from the solid area, then upon creating a line,

the sketch area shows up.

I now have the work around so will wait for the team to fix the currently known sketch missing issues

This is not a workaround, it's how the new UI works. Create or activate a sketch and the sketch tab shows.

Here's the help on the ne UI.

Thanks for your input Mark, but.............

This maybe how the new UI is supposed to work, but it does not work for me,

and as it seems, others too.

When I create a new design, then in the design workspace, click create sketch,

then select a plane, the sketch "tab" DOES NOT SHOW UP.

It is a simple as that and it IS a bug in the new UI which others have found / questioned.

I have found that the only way to get it to show up FOR ME,

is to right click on the plane, hit the sketch dropdown, select a feature such as a line,

and start drawing a line.

ONLY THEN does it show up.

Without the sketch "tab", this is the only way I can draw a sketch.

Glad it works for you as designed, but others, who may be experiencing what I am seeing,

might be interested in this info.

Please don't dismiss this as others being incompetent.

here is a screenshot by the way of me on an active plane with no sketch tab.

You can clearly see that I am on a plane, and that I have clicked "create sketch"

The line tool is missing under the create sub-menu of the new "Design" tab.  I can't find it for the life of me.

you have to be in sketch mode to see the line tool in the updated UI

Thanks for your help

The new UI is the only option now. See introduction in the help.

Gentlemen,

Rebooting the computer and software solve the problem for me.

I have this same problem.  Didn't last time I used the program.   I don't have an IU box see attached.  Don't understand the details explained above about compatibility checking.

Yes I agree.  I think a lot of folks might be in the same boat as me and are following along with the online tutorials and are finding that what they are now seeing in the Fusion 360 UI does not match up with the tutorials.  Us novices were not aware that the UI was updated.  It was through one of the posts about the "Introduction" under Help that cleared things up (a bit) for me.

Thanks,

Mike
