Mac OS Big Sur and external GPU (eGPU) issues

I recently updated to Mac OS Big Sur (11.3). Running on MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5).

 

Fusion works as normal until I connect an external GPU (AMD Radeon RX5700XT inside Razor CoreX).

 

Screenshot 2021-05-06 at 11.46.22.pngWhen I check the "Prefer external GPU" box on the Fusion360 app and launch it. I get a blank window with just some elements appearing (see screenshot).

 

This was an issue when I last upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 so I reverted back to the previous OS. Now on 11.3 and it's still an issue.

 

Is this something Autodesk has on their radar? Can we expect a fix soon?

Hello @jason5YR9X ,

 

This seems a known issue, can you please try the below workaround and see if this works?

  1. Close Fusion.
  2. Open Terminal, type launchctl setenv QT_QUICK_BACKEND "software" and press enter.
  3. Close Terminal.
  4. Open Fusion.
If you would like to undo, type launchctl unsetenv QT_QUICK_BACKENDBut this looks like a generic opengl issue. Even if Fusion UI can show, I am not sure the graphics canvas can show properly.

Thanks for the support. I followed your instructions and now the UI shows, however as you said, the canvas is blank.

 

When you say this is a generic OpenGL issue does that mean we have to wait for Apple to debug?
