Fusion "crashes" every time I close my laptop lid

100% reproduction rate, and I'm getting pretty tired of it. Every single time I close the lid on my laptop (which puts the computer to Sleep) when I open it again I have a Fusion 360 Error Report popup in my face. Closing the popup closes Fusion 360, but if I click on Fusion 360 I can keep working as normal. At this point pretty much everything I get done is in "crashed" mode, because I'm not going to restart Fusion 360 every time I have to switch buses.

So as best I can tell, the bug is that the Error Report pops up when it shouldn't, and is triggered by the laptop going to Sleep.

Windows 10 Home, v1803

Lenovo Ideapad Flex 6-14IKB

hi @DrCyanide ,

thanks for posting! This is definitely reproducible behavior and the developers have been looking into it (FUS-47368) and working on a fix.

thank you for your patience!

@DrCyanide I'm sorry you're experiencing this! I have a workaround and explanation of the issue that will hopefully provide some relief until we can get a more sustainable fix in place.

If you have a touchscreen, the issue is likely due to Wacom's drivers that power Lenovo's [if not nearly every mainstream] touchscreen laptop display. For some reason, ISD_Tablet.dll really doesn't like when Fusion is open when the device sleeps.

In my testing, one mitigating factor is that the crash doesn't actually destroy the main Fusion process, thus allowing you to still save your file; it's not until you press Send on the crash report dialog, which then terminates the Fusion process.

Additionally, I've found that I can terminate the WTabletServiceISD.exe process to avoid these crashes, and don’t seem to have issues using the touch screen.

Now, if you don't have a touchscreen or this process on your device, we'll need to dig further. But give these a try and let me know if it helps.

Thanks,

Lance

To add, it sounds like there are ongoing discussions with Lenovo and Wacom to solve this issue. In lieu of a known fix date, in the meantime I would recommend keeping an eye on the Lenovo System Update app for firmware and bios updates related to your device, should they release an update before I hear about it.

OK, while it seems very odd for a touchscreen service issue to crash Fusion 360, at least there's a work around.

Doing a little bit more tinkering, I think I've come up with a slightly better workaround for me - someone who is using Fusion360 a lot more than their stylus right now, but bought the laptop because it had stylus support and likes to be able to draw. The drawbacks of this method seem to be that the art program I'm using (Krita) doesn't recognize the stylus after sleep, but it's not in a crashed state either so I can save and re-open if needed. I may need to undo that at a later date, but for now this seems like a better option.

1. Open Services

2. Right click on Wacom ISD Service and select Properties

3. Change Startup Type from Automatic to Automatic (Delayed)

Additionally, I've disabled LenovoUtilityUWP from Startup list, but I doubt that's contributing much.

This happens to me constantly, except I have a HP Zbook x360 with touchscreen. Disabling Wacom driver for the HP Active Stylus G2 does work.

Lenovo and Fusion 360 seem to have gotten things figured out, because I got an email saying they had a fix for this. I applied the updates from both and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

It has been 5 years, they must be working hard! NOT! On a macbook in 2024 having the same issue, and very tired of simply changing locations meaning I need to restart fusion or launch the utility etc. What a buggy piece of software in general, it is no wonder it is free, I will be switching to Solidworks
