Fusion 360 not responding when clicking on appearance

I just noticed this. never had any issues with this before?

Tried a couple of times with same results. Fusion 360 stops responding and I have to force quit!

I tried a old model that I have used appearance on before and same thing happens??

I just got a update. could that be it??

I got a new computer a week ago, dont know if I tried appearance on any models on this machine?. however this machine is a couple of times more powerful than my last so that shouldn't be the problem?

What is going on?

Hey @et.teljemo,

I'm sorry to hear that's happening! Can you please give some more details?

  • What graphics card(s) does your new computer have, and what OS is it running?
  • Does this behavior happen in all of your models, or just one or two?
  • At what point exactly does Fusion start freezing/lagging? For example, when the appearance window is opened, when you click inside the appearance window, if you're dragging an appearance to a body, etc.
  • If it's happening when trying to apply an appearance to a body, does this happen for all appearances or just one or two?
  • This is happening regardless of whether the appearance is set to body or face, right?

Thanks!

Hello,
I also replied in an earlier thread, but more people are having this problem, me included. Started happening after the last update.

Hi,

If your windows user name has non-ASCII characters this problem occurs.  We are working on a fix for this problem and expect to release it as soon as we are able to - likely in the next couple of days.  My apologies for the inconvenience, hope to provide an update soon.

Best regards,

Sanjay Jayabal.

Hello,

I'm in the same situation. When I click "appearance" icon or "A" Fusion 360 stops. And this things happen to me after last update. It's really annoying. I can not change any appearance of my old designs. And I can not add new appearance to my new designs.

Hi @Anonymous,

Really sorry for the disruption, we will be releasing a fix for this very soon (current estimate is sometime next week).

Hi Emanuel,

I am now wondering if this could be something different than the issue we are aware of and in the process of fixing.  If your login ID has accented characters for example, the problem shows up when using the appearance command.

One piece of information that would be helpful from all of you that are encountering issues with appearance is - do you get a Crash Error Report dialog when accessing Appearance?  Or, does Fusion 360 just become unresponsive and not allow any other interaction?  If you do get a Crash Error Report, can you please submit it (and make sure you enter the email ID associated with the account that you were logged in to in Fusion360)?  This will help us investigate if there is a different problem.

Best regards,

Sanjay Jayabal.

Hi
My user name is just plain and simple Emanuel
I don't get the option to send a report. All freezes until I click the X and get the option to wait or close fusion.

Hello,

I also have same issue after last update - even in empty new project when I click Appearance it crashes. In my case it also gives me a chance to send a report, which I did a few times. It's not only appearance but physical material - both do not work. I am having non-ASCII characters in my user name though, so hoping your fix will work for me.

  • What graphics card(s) does your new computer have, and what OS is it running?

Graphic card: ASUS Geforce GTX 1070 TURBO. OS: Windows 10 PRO

  • Does this behavior happen in all of your models, or just one or two?

All models that I have tried. Small and big, with or without appearance.

  • At what point exactly does Fusion start freezing/lagging? For example, when the appearance window is opened, when you click inside the appearance window, if you're dragging an appearance to a body, etc.

When I click on appearance or hit A (some say materials to, haven't tried that) I never see the appearance window/tool. Fusion freezes before it opens.

  • If it's happening when trying to apply an appearance to a body, does this happen for all appearances or just one or two?

Never get that far. fusion freezes before I can even see the tool.

  • This is happening regardless of whether the appearance is set to body or face, right?

Never get that far. fusion freezes before I can even see the tool.

I copied Teljemos answer and changed some that applies for me:

  • What graphics card(s) does your new computer have, and what OS is it running?

Graphic card: ASUS Geforce GTX 1070 DUAL. OS: Windows 10 HOME

When I click on appearance or hit A, it freezes for like 5 seconds then i get the error report screen
