Fusion 360 Freezing/ Lost Data

I have been trying to use Fusion 360 after switching from another cad/ cam software and let me say it has been nothing short of painful frustration.  I am unable to run this as a reg. user(right click and run as administrator) and have to log in under the administrator to use this software which then takes 5 mins to load.  I then create a simple 2 tool sample that I will run on my machine to test out the process.  That is where it comes to a screeching halt.  I can create the 3d model and face the part in the machine so I know the whole chain works, but when I have to create a tool the fusion 360 software locks up and takes about 10 minutes to reload.  I then have the window open asking me if I want to recover the data of which I say yes.  I am then able to create the tool and then proceed to create my last 2d contour and it freezes up again. So I restart the computer but this time I do NOT get the recovery window and I have lost all of my program.  I am running offline as I do not have internet access during the daytime.

           I am loosing time and money trying to get this supposedly GOOD software to work and am at the point of abandoning it.  I have NEVER seen software that was so troublesome to just get up and running in my 20+ years of machining.  I am a machinist and NOT an IT guy who needs the software to run w/o hours or days of tweeking to get the software to work.

            I am asking for help on this to get this up and running before I change my mind and go another avenue w/ Cad/ Cam.

Oh boy, this certainly doesn't sound like a pleasant experience, and I'm sorry that you're running into it. Let's get some info first;

What is your computer and how old is it? What operating system?

What is your file, can you share it? Is it made up of imported sketches and SVG imports?

 

To share the file; right click on the file in the Data Panel and select the "Share Public Link". Make sure it's set to "Allow items to be downloaded, and paste the link here.

 

I too am a machinist of 22 years and I use the software daily for my own shop (www.libertymachineinc.com), so I can vouch for it's usefulness (ignoring the fact that I'm an Autodesk employee as well). 

I do have some concern about running offline, as that's not something I have to deal with. It may be related, or maybe it's not

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my thread. To answer your questions I am using a Dell Inspiron 15 that is about 4 years old. I am operating under the Windows 10 operating system. The file that I have created is not made up of imported sketches and/ or SVG imports. It is just a simple .381 wide x 3.487 long x 1.002 deep block of aluminum, 6061 T-6, that I have faced, then I have 2d contoured a .181 wide x 3.287 long x .100 high island on the top face. I then have 2d contoured the top edge w/ a 60 deg chamfer. It's pretty simple just to take the process all the way through to prove out Fusion as a first time user. One thing I do not like about Fusion is that it seems to crash when I want to build my own tool. I can build the tool but the software crashes 2 times before I can make the tool, save it, and create my toolpath. I need to find out what is causing this to happen before I fully commit to using this software long term.

Interesting indeed. When you say "build your tool", are you talking about a custom form tool, or just a standard endmill? Do you think you could use the ScreenCast recorder to capture your steps?
