Does my desktop computer meet minimum system requirements for Fusion 360?

Hello,   I am brand new to Fusion 360.   I am using it with Shaper Origin hand-held CNC router.  I have been able to successfully make 2d models that I can export to Shaper and cut.   However, I am not able to extrude the objects.  I can select extrude, then drag the arrow and the thickness does increase in inches in the little box, but the image on the screen is still flat and does not get thicker.   Also, when trying to view some things in 3D it just gives me a black image with gray staggered lines in it.

I'm thinking maybe my desktop PC it too old, too slow, or needs some type of ugrade.  Here are my system specs:

Intel Core i3 CPU,  550 @ 3.20GHz,  8.00 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System

Take a look at this website to determine if you system can run Fusion 360 or not.

Thank you very much.  That did answer my question.  My system and graphics card are up to the task.  That means there is some other issue that is not allowing me to extrude objects in Fusion 360.   Maybe there was some kind of problem during initial installation.  Should I uninstall and install again?    Any other ideas as to what might be wrong?   I can't seem to view objects in 3D correctly either.   Attached is a screen shot of a box.  That's not normal, is it?   Thanks.

You might want to take a look at your Preferences, Graphics.  The Preference can be found under your log in name in the upper right hand corner if you are unfamiliar with them.  Posting your model would also help since I cannot tell what it is.  Draw something simple like an extruded rectangle and see how it does.  You might want to experiment with the Display Setting in the center bottom part of your screen, the monitor picture.

Thanks very much for your reply.  I have looked at the graphics properties menu, but not sure what I should select on it.   Are you suggesting I set mine up just like the screen shot you posted?   If so, I will give that a try.

The project I was most recently working on was pretty much a simple rectangle, but it did have an ellipse in the middle of it.  (Not the image I posted, that is something else.)  When I get home from work today (Fusion 360 is on my home computer - hobbyist), I will try just a simple rectangle without the ellipse in it to see if I am able to give it thickness.

Thanks much!

Hi @Anonymous,

Does your computer have dual graphics cards? This looks a lot like what can happen if Fusion 360 is being run with the integrated card rather than the discrete card - this article goes through how to make sure Fusion 360 is using the more robust discrete card.

If your computer doesn't support switchable graphics, I'd recommend looking to see if there's an updated version of your graphics driver - the graphics diagnostic window indicates that the driver you're using right now is a version from 2010. You can look up your specific graphics card on the Intel site to check for a more recent version of the driver.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for your reply.  I don't know if my computer has dual graphics cards or not.   When I get home from work today, I'll check it out, and will also see if I can update my graphics card via the Intel website.   Thanks very much for your help!

Hello Kate,   I used your link to check for updates to my graphics card, and I found one and downloaded it and all is good now!!    I am able to see 3D models correctly.   The image I posted previously was a box, and it was showing up in black/grey.   Now it is showing up in full 3D and with brown wood grain on it, as it should be.

Another design I was working on yesterday that I was unable to extrude, is now working fine.

Thanks very much for your help!!
