Display error for Lathe inserts Inches vs. Millimeters

There appears to be a display issue for lathe tooling inserts when switching from Inches to Millimeters (without changing anything else). I have included a screenshot for Inch and one for Millimeter unit selection showing the difference in displayed insert size showing the inch unit being displayed much larger. The holders and other dimensions seem to update correctly.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Does the output code and simulation run ok for you, otherwise?

I will get this looked into and circle back with a case number if need be

After checking with the Turning Team, this is actually intended behavior. ISO insert definitions are different from ANSI. ISO wants Edge Length, ANSI is content with IC

An ANSI VNMG432 is a 35 deg diamond, .500" IC. That same insert in ISO is VNMG220412 where edge length is 22mm

The change you are seeing is that the insert actually doesn't convert over to its metric equivalent. While it would be nice if it did select the identical ISO (or ANSI) equivalent, you DO still have the ability to define the correct tool. So, an enhancement would be nice, but I think most of us would agree that the Lathe Team would be better off pouring resources into strengthening the core of Turning

Thanks for the explanation. While I agree it may not be a high priority, that sort of behavior is a bit odd. If one were to change the dimension units while in the holder geometry screen, he likely would not expect the insert to change as one would assume the holder screen would never influence the inserts.

If I may ask, why would you switch back and forth? If you are in the USA or Australia, you'd likely be working in inch any ways. Is there a need to move back and forth between ANSI and ISO (in regards to lathe inserts)?

I'm not sure that physical location determines which units are used, I often use both, depending on the project. Fusion in itself is a bit limited in general when changing units as well (unless there are some hidden areas in which to change specific attributes and unit scales for volume / density, etc).

Some holders are made to metric sizes, some are made to standard sizes. Some inserts use standard, some use metric. If one were to change from a "standard" insert and put a metric insert into a standard holder (or standard insert into a metric holder), only one screen would likely be changed, but the insert could also change "automatically".

I'm not saying this is a huge issue, just making it known so some folks may pay attention to the potential for an unintended result.
