Direct Modeling Extrude Body Bug

Direct Modeling Extrude Body Bug

This is the weirdest thing. I'm trying to quickly fill a small gap using extrude. I'm working with a Fusion model I imported, and I'm using direct modelling because of that. Anyways, I enter extrude and I fill the hole. It's tangent to the rest of the model and should just join with the rest of it. For some reason, it defaults to "new body" which is odd enough, but even after I select "Join" from the drop-down and pick OK, it still creates a new body. I added some pictures.

Considering I went out of my way to select "Join" it seems extra odd that a new body was made. It wasn't even in the component!

extrude will revert to New Body if the tool body does not intersect with the target body (even if there are small gaps).  If you share the model, someone can take a look at it.  Thanks

And that's the strange part. The extrude is a projection of the negative space, and the extrude is completely flush. (As you can tell by the pictures, the combined parts are completely seamless.) I tried to recreate the situation in a separate design, but it did default to Join, which gives me an idea on why this happened: the biggest difference I can note is the one model was designed around an imported component, and my test (the other model) was built from scratch.

I included the model, and to recreate the situation just project the negative space between any of the ribs and extrude it down or up.

thanks for sharing the model, @CountToInfinity .  See the screencast below.  It does default to New Body, which is a bit strange, but when I select "Join", it does seem to correctly join to the body.  I know that the logic for picking a default operation can be sensitive - if the profile is adjacent to another body it can sometimes go either way.  I'll look more at this tomorrow, but it doesn't seem too broken to me.

I see. Odd that it would correctly join for you but not me.

Anyways, thanks for taking a closer look.
