Deleted designs

Is there still no way to recover deleted projects except for cache? I never work offline, so my cache is completely empty.

I just missclicked a folder that I wanted to delete for the one I wanted to keep and was surprised after my OPEN design was closed and quickly deleted along with a few others. Switching to offline mode didn't help as my changes propagated all the way to the cloud.

1) Is the Fusion 360 cloud storage based on soft-delete or hard-delete? If hard-delete, then why? No service uses hard-deletes anymore.

2) If I delete a design that is open why does it close it? This is the strangest feature I've ever seen. If the design is open during the delete operation, the chance of that being a mistake is enormously higher than the expectation that the user wants the design closed for him.

3) Why is a serious production program prone to a SPOF?

Thanks for posting. I have some thoughts on your questions on data management/file deletion in Fusion 360.

1. Fusion 360 currently uses a hard-delete. This has been identified as a problem and the development team is working on changing to a recycle bin/soft-delete solution, but I cannot give an expected date at this time.
2. When I went to delete a design that I currently had open, I received the message below. I also found that the "Delete" button in the web browser is greyed out when a file is in use. This is shown below:

I'm curious how you were able to delete a design that was currently open - would you mind sharing a screencast illustrating how to trigger this behavior?

indeed it doesn't allow you to directly delete the design, although if you delete the folder that the design is in, (presumably) you bypass the check for a open file.

I do know that this is a feature request, AFAIK from 2015 or earlier.

I have since remodeled my design as I often exported the bodies to STL to check for slicer issues, and I am going to install some kind of a archive plugin.

Thanks for the clarification. This is risky and I've logged a high priority issue with the development team to fix the problem (internal reference UP-41349). I greatly appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Remember that you can always back up cloud files locally by exporting local archive copies - this may help avoid needing to find a third party solution.

Thank you @paul.clauss, I appreciate your help.

I do export final designs, I'd just like something more automatic, and want to minimize the possibility of overwriting something - maybe even keeping an offline version control with Git or such.

I'm glad that you take this issue seriously as It's quite a unexpected behaviour and could lead to bigger problems than deleting my few simple designs.
