Hi @eds.ret

Thanks for posting! The way that Fusion exports STL files has not changed - is this issue occurring with only a certain file, or all of your designs?

Are you certain you are using the most recent version of Cura?

I hope this helps! If you continue to experience problems, please provide more detail on what exact behavior you are seeing on your end and we will continue troubleshooting.

Hi @eds.ret

Thanks for posting! I do not believe Cura (or any other 3D printing utility program) has ever supported the Fusion 360 native format (.f3d). Like most 3D print utilities, Cura only supports mesh files. This is confirmed by their website - "Ultimaker Cura works with STL, OBJ, X3D or 3MF file formats out-of-the-box."

To take a Fusion design into Cura, you will need to convert it to STL format using the techniques at this link.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paul , Thanks for the website but that is exactly what I have been doing
for two years . My Autodesk Fusion 360 has been working fine with Cura .
That`s why I so frustrated trying to find out why it quit working . Is
there a diagnostic program I could run? Would there be like some drivers
missing? Thanks, David E.

Hi @eds.ret

Thanks for the response. I have Cura and am not able to open F3D files in it - I need to convert the F3D file to one of the formats mentioned in my previous post (STL, OBJ, X3D or 3MF). Fusion can only convert to STL at this time.

I think we may be confused on your previous workflow, as, to the best of my knowledge, Cura has never supported F3D files. You can look back into their materials to see this - F3D is not included in this list from two years ago.

Are you using the 3D Print Button? This button generates an STL that is sent to Cura, so you may not think of it as creating an STL.

It may be worth reaching out on the Cura forums - they can confirm why the error message is occurring and that they do not support F3D files.

Do you have old F3D files saved on your computer from before this issue occurred that you can open in Cura? Would you mind sharing a video of your workflow? I'm happy to look into this, but am certain that Cura has never supported F3D format files.

I recently got Fusion 360, and Cura.  I have the most updated version of both.  Fusion 360 is not recognizing Cura

Hi, bivyrj , Thanks for your response , I had to reinstall 21.02 cura to
get things to work again . I just had to get imaginative to get fusion to
cooperate . I didn`t like the updated version of cura at all .

Thanks , eds.ret

I have been converting STL files in Fusion to G-Code files in Cura until 2 days ago when my user agreement changed to a maximum of only 10 active files. Since then I have not been able to convert the STL file into G-Code in Cura and load them onto the SD card to put in my printer....why is this?

I am having the same problem since my agreement was changed a couple of days ago to a maximin of only 10 editable files. Cura converts it to a .ufp file and will not load it onto an SD card to put in my printer. Is this part of the Fusion new cut back or pay up policy for hobbyists?

I highly doubt this was an intentional change. I'll raise this issue with the devs!

Hi @eds.ret ,

We are currently looking into this issue. We did a quick check with Cura 4.4 and everything works as expected. Since the previous discussion on this thread is two years old it would help a lot if we could get some updated information:

  • Please describe your exact workflow in Fusion and Cura and also where it fails.
  • What versions of Cura and Fusion are you using?
  • What printer are you using?
  • Does this behavior also occur when using STL files that have not been created in Fusion but in another software?

Thanks for your help in advance!
