could not open file! error opening file

Not applicable

When I try to open my project, I get a pop up message saying "could not open file! error opening file! The operation will be aborted" that then disappears. I am able to open other files. Please help me troubleshoot this issue!Screen Shot 2020-02-06 at 3.35.45 PM.png

Can you log into your A360 hub and share the file you are having trouble opening.  Give some of the forum users a shot to analysis it.

I took cannot open the top level assembly.  The two sub assemblies do not have any issues.

so, if i understand correctly, opening the current version is still not an option, but a less recent version is?

Accepted solution

what i found i needed to do to solve this problem was do a manual uninstall of fusion360, restart the machine, reinstall fusion360, have it crash while reinstalling, try it again, THEN the program would open. i still cannot open the most recent version of my document, but am able to open a previous version AND am able to save that one! (which i wasn't able to do before performing the manual uninstall).

i'm still not sure what went wrong or why my most recent version doesn't work (which doesn't bode well for prevention in the future), but i'm glad i can work on my project again.

I had the exact same issue. I fixed it by going to the job status section (its located next to the extensions logo up in the bar, its icon is a clock). Then i just clicked the blue option that said something that i forgot (i think it said something like click this to restart fusion 360 and see whats new in the patch or update or whatever). Then after i clicked it and it restarted, it fixed the problem entirely
