Hi,
I have a mac, and I created a design that I wanted to share with others, on the net. So I exported it in a .f3d file, but I can't open it 'normally' with the finder.
Double-clicking the file says that there's no application for opening it, and trying to associate with the launcher hidden in ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/webdeploy/production/481ae2b0e5c12ff7a0c143d191a396cce7c413b7
doesn't work.
Is there something bad with my installation?
Hi,
Fusion will open designs directly using the Open command as @MoshiurRashid is kind enough to point out, but that workflow is outside of the intended use of Fusion data in the cloud.
Consider this: Because Fusion stores your design in the cloud, you don't need to use those old-style methods of downloading and emailing files around. Instead, invite others to view or download the latest copy of your design, right from your data panel.
When someone uses the link a web page opens. They can view the design, open the design, or download a copy of the design.
I know that I can do this like that...
It's not the way I want to work.
The design is in the Cloud, but like any other things on the Internet, it's here today, it will vanish tomorrow...
I want to share my work with a real document, that others can modify themselve.
There _is_ some sort of binary on my computer that launch Fusion 360, it's not entirely online, so there is no reason that it should not be able to recognize it's own document format.
Then, Fusion is probably not the tool for you. Fusion is highly cloud-centric, and always will be. There are awkward workflows you can use to try to make it more "local" (using Export and Open for saving locally only), but you will eventually become frustrated by those, as there are limitations (you cannot insert a design into another design from disk, for instance).
There is a way to do what you want, as @jeff_strater says it might be a more manual process and can't use some of the things Fusion needs the cloud for.
1. The share link workflow I showed you does allow whoever you send the link to to download an .f3d to their local computer hard drive. Caveat: This would require the recipient to be connected to the internet in order to download the .f3d from your cloud storage data.
2. The open dialog. You can use the Open dialog to open .f3d from your local hard drive as @MoshiurRashid has pointed out.
Limitations:
Cannot insert designs into other designs and maintain a reference link.
Keeping track of design version history would be a manual process.
Please let us know how it goes.
You guys are missing the point. We want to use our computers the way computers are generally used.
I really love working in Fusion, but much of what we do is outside of the F360 environment. It makes for a very clunky workflow to have to open an application>file>open, then have to browse for a file to open. Same goes with sharing a .f3d project. I don't want to have to leave mail, open an application, go through a bunch of clicks, create a public link, and have to share that.
Say I have something that I want to communicate to my engineer. I need to show him an image of where the project is going to be installed, a couple notes on tolerances, and a CAD file where I did a quick mock up of what I need him to do. Using what you call "old-style methods", all it takes is a tap on my Touch Bar and a couple of keystrokes, and I have an email ready to send him with everything he needs to move forward.
What you're pitching as a feature is actually a hindrance to a productive real world workflow.
