symmetric extrusion no symmetricsymmetric extrusion no symmetric

making a simple part today.  Symmetric extrusion of a cylinder and you can see how far off it is.  2 inch extrusion and its favoring the Z+ direction by .1 inch or so.

Actually the problem is with the tangent plane. Some plane creation tools create the origin at what seems random places and should not be used. You can see below the document origin is at the centre of the extrusion.

For some reason the design you shared the first sketch was not constrained, looked correct in your screen shot!

Also I found if you select a plane while setting up a tangent plane its origin does match the document origin. Still would not recommend using the origin created from planes as they are not predictable. Offset planes from the document origin should be OK though.

Screenshot shows unconstrained sketch and the fixed origin after selecting a plane for reference in the tangent plane dialog.

Thank you.  I usually have the drawing origin visible when doing such operations, don't know why it wasn't that time.  Glad it was my mistake and an easy fix
